Abstract

A disposable liner for a mould for concrete test cubes and cylinders may be paper based and plastic coated, and is provided to allow easier preparation and cleaning of the mould mould, and improved accuracy of mould test results.

Description

A concrete solution
Introduction
In the Uk and around the would any structural concrete that is poured either on site or pre-cast in factories must be tested for its compressive strength. This is generally done by taking samples from each batch poured and forming test cubes. The cubes are then crushed to record compressive strengths.
The cubes are formed in a mould assembly that may be made from either metal or plastic. The moulds must be precision made to comply with European, British and other standards.
They are robust and reusable and require extensive time in preparation and breaking out of test cubes and in the cleaning and preparation for re-use of the mould.
Description of the product.
A Disposable concrete mould liner/membrane and mould former for the use of forming all shapes and sizes of concrete and mortar test cubes and cylinders. The liner will be Paper based and plastic coated, but not specificatly limited to this.
The product will conform to the standards for forming concrete test cubes for the testing of the compressive strengths of concretes and mortars coved by BS EN 12390-1:2000 & BS EN 12390-2:2000 replacing the old BS 1881 -1 08:1983 Concrete test cube Mould formers are already on the market but this idea adds a disposable liner to a compatible mould former. The new idea/ principle is the disposable liner which works along side a compatible mould former.

Claims (5)

  1. The Claim To my knowledge disposable liners for forming concrete and mortar test cubes and cylinders are not used anywhere in the world at this time. This idea/ invention/product is therefore new and unique.
The product will bring the advantage of significant saving in the time spent in the preparation of moulds, in the cleaning of moulds, the preparation of moulds and the re-fixing of moulds in the production of the test cubes; Specifically: 1. Ease of mould preparation -the liner will replace the need for the application of release oil (this is a very messy process) there are also possible environmental and H&S issues that can be removed)
  2. 2. Ease of release of cube from mould -this due to the completeness of the liner compared to the possible incomplete cover by release oil.
  3. 3. Ease of preparation of mould for re-use-the cleaning and preparation of key surfaces within a mould can be a lengthy and arduous task the use of the liner would remove this time consuming task completely.
  4. 4. Improved accuracy of cube ( providing more accurate test results) due to the elimination of progressive build up of concrete/ mortar on the reusable mould wetted surfaces and mating surfaces. The use of the disposable liner will prevent these surfaces coming into direct contact with the concrete.
  5. 5. Improved mould longevity due also to lack of direct contact of the mould with the concrete and mortars.
