Abstract

The invention concerns a unit 1 that can be used for the transportation and presentation of products such as flowers and plants. The unit is designed to be used with various means of transport in the logistics chain or as a standalone system. The system, which is made entirely of 100% recycled and recyclable waste paper fibre material, allows the products to be transported and distributed from nursery or auction to point of sale without further transfer. The logistic and presentation system consists of three main components: product carriers 2, stacking spacers 3 and an integrated platform 4. After its useful life, the invention is completely recyclable as waste paper as it consists entirely of 100% waste paper fibre material. The primary aim of the invention is to eliminate the need to return transportation and presentation units. The steel trolleys and other transportation devices currently in use all need to be returned to their point of origin. This entails significant costs, which are likely to increase further in the future as a result of international environmental constraints, CO2 levies and other transportation taxes.

Description

A paper fibre logistic system with an integrated platform for the transportation and presentation of products.
Description:
The invention concerns a paper fibre logistic "system" for the transportation and presentation of products. It consists of an autonomous paper fibre logistic "system" for use in logistic routing which can also serve as a stand-alone presentation unit at point of sale.
When constructed from steel, such systems are commonly known as Danish trolleys and are used for the transport of flowers and plants in the logistic routing between nursery and point of sale: either directly, through wholesalers or through auction facilities. At the point of sale, the steel trolley can be used to present the products, or the products can be transferred to presentation shelving.
After use, the steel trolleys have to be returned so that they can be reused for a further batch of products. The purpose of this invention is to reduce the not insignificant costs involved in the return process, which are likely to increase further in the future as a result of international environmental constraints, CO2 levies and other taxes.
A significant cost saving can thus be achieved with the aid of this invention which combines a logistic and presentation system made entirely from recycled paper fibre material. This means that after the products have been sold, the complete "system" can be S.....
* 20 discarded as wastepaper into the recycling system. Manufacturing this invention out of paper fibre eliminates the cost of returning the transportation unit, an expense that would necessarily be incurred with * a steel trolley system.
The invention concerns a system which is built up from three *.
* 25 principal parts: the horizontal product carriers, a stacking spacer system and a platform The paper fibre logistic system unit consists of a number of product carriers, the dimensions of which (length, width and height) can be varied according the requirements. The product carriers are attached to one another and to the platform by means stacking spacers.
The four corners of the product carrier have integrated triangular corner pockets as part of the product carrier lay-out. These corner pockets accommodate the stacking spacers which in turn support the next product carrier layer.
The corner pockets also serve to reinforce the rigidity of the system. At the corner pocket positions in the base of the product carrier there are apertures through which the internal profile of the stacking spacers can pass. The stacking spacers are made of paper fibre material, and consist of a spiral wound internal and external tube profile or of a folded internal and external tube profile.
The outer profile of the spacers can take a variety of shapes, e.g. round, oval, triangular, square or almost any other required shape. The dimensions (length and diameter) of the stacking spacers, which are separable, can vary. They attach firmly to each other due to the precise fit of the internal tube profile into the external profile. The external profile can be the same or a different shape. The external profile determines the distance between one horizontal product carrier and the product carrier above; the lower end of the external profile is a flush fit into the corner pocket of the product * * * carrier and the product carrier above rests upon its upper end.
* 25 The internal profile of the stacking spacer, which protrudes beyond the lower end of the external profile, passes through the aperture in the corner pocket on the base of the product carrier, so : * *. enabling attachment to the stacking spacer below or to the platform (as required).
Having the stacking spacers in different lengths makes it possible to vary the number of horizontal product carriers in any system unit and the reciprocal distance between the product carriers. The number of product carriers and the height of any one system is determined by the contents of each individual product carrier and overall logistic constraints.
The platform, which is also manufactured from 100% waste paper fibre, has a rectangular buffer construction on the Iwo outer edges. The internal profile of the lowest stacking spacers passes through the aperture in the base of the corner pockets of the lowest product carrier into a similar aperture in the rectangular buffers of the platform. This construction guarantees the stability of the system as a whole. In the middle of the platform there is a centre console, with cross panels between the upright sides to further strengthen and stabilize the construction.
These measures maximize the stability and weight-bearing characteristics of the system, and make it possible to move the unit either by hand or mechanically. This makes it ideally suited for use within a logistic handling operation.
The invention will be explained by means of the attached diagrams in which: Figure 1 is a perspective of the set-up of the logistic and * : * . presentation "system" provided by the invention with the product in its operational mode.
* Figure 2 is an exploded perspective of figure 1 showing the :.: various components of the "system".
Figure 1 includes the product carriers (2), the separable stacking : *.** spacers (3), and the platform (4). The product carriers (2) consist of a **.* blank paper fibre base plate (10), folded so as to create upright sides (11) and integrated corner pockets (5).
Figure 2 shows that the platform (4) consists of two rectangular buffers (12) and a centre console (13) with connecting panels (14) and two horizontal panels (15); this design provides a free space for lifting the "system" for logistics handling purposes.
Figure 2 shows that the internal profile (7) of the stacking spacers fits through the aperture in the corner pockets (5) of the product carrier into the the opening (9) at the top of the external profile (8) of the layer below Figure 2 shows that the internal profile (7) of the lowest stacking spacer passes through an aperture (6) at each of the four corners of the platform (4) into the rectangular outer edge buffers (12).
Figure 2 shows the separable stacking spacers (3) at each corner. These consist of an external profile (8) which is a close fit in to the corner pocked of the product carrier with an internal profile (7) with fits precisely through the aperture in the corner pockets (5) into the opening (9) of the external profile of the stacking spacers (3) for the horizontal product carrier (2) below or into the platform (4).
The paper fibre logistic and presentation system unit (1) consists of a horizontal stack of product carriers (2) which are attached and separated by stacking spacers (3) and are connected to the platform (4) to form a stable "system".
The number of product carriers in a "system" unit can vary * 25 according to requirements, and is partly dependent on the height of the :.: product to be placed in the product carrier. The product carriers (2), the separable stacking spacer system (3) and the platform (4) make it : *., possible to construct a strong and stable system which is suitable for *.S.
both transportation and presentation.
