Printing processes and apparatus. - A textile fabric 13 is decorated by feeding it past an engraved roller 32, such as that shown in Fig. 8, supplied with a colouring composition which is removed from the roller and sprayed on to the fabric by means of a rotating brush 34, Fig. 1. A stencil may be interposed between the spray and the fabric. Drying-apparatus.-The web 13, Fig. 1, is unwound from a roll 14, and is dried between heating-coils 18. 20 arranged in a drying-chamber 17 and is rewound on a reel 22. Inking-apparatus : stencils and stencilling. - Colour is supplied to the roller 32, Fig. 1, by a trough 33 the lower edge of which acts as a scraper to remove the surface colour from the roller. The spraying-device 32 - - 34 is carried in a frame 25 adjustable to and from the fabric 13, the roller 32 is mounted in adjustable bearings so that the pressure on the brush may be varied, and the roller and brush are rotated by independent belt drives so that the relative speeds may be varied to vary the decorative effect. In the construction shown in Fig. 4, the spraying-device 32 - - 34 is arranged inside a perforated stencil drum 48 rotating in a bearing 49 and driven by gears 50, 51. Surplus colour is removed from the drum by a drip-pan 54 the edge of which forms a scraper. The web 13 passes over guide-rollers 55, 56 mounted in brackets 57 so as to be adjustable to and from the spraying-device. Fig. 5 shows an alternative form comprising a flat stencil 58 in conjunction with which is arranged a shutter 59 for providing an intermittent spray, the shutter being reciprocated by an eccentric 62 and rocking lever 61. In a further modificaton, a battery of spraying- devices is provided for multi-colour printing. Also, the brush may be arranged above a roller 32 dipping in a trough.
