Abstract
A curved plastering trowel comprising a thin flexible curved plate 1, the plate being connected proximate to each longitudinal end to two pivot arms 2 which are locked in position, wherein the angle of the curved plate is adjustable by undoing the locking mechanism and moving the pivot arms to a greater or lesser angle. The locking mechanism preferably comprises a centre bar 4 and wing nut 7. A handle 6 may also be provided. In use, the trowel is used to plaster curved surfaces, for example, to plaster a coving where a ceiling meets a wall.
Description
CURVA
A plastering tool for continuously curved ceilings This tool I've invented is for continuous curved ceilings I walls with no stopping point. As I've been a plasterer for over 20 years, I can say that this curved tool is an excellent time-saver which creates a perfect curve every time.
The hand trowel takes so much time to trowel smooth, also the trowel catches sometimes on the curve, taking a lot of time to put right.
This CURVA Trowel is perfect for plastering a very difficult continuous curve where the ceiling meets the wall.
Although this tool would not be required on a daily basis, it is invaluable to any plasterer when this situation arises I have used the prototype three times in two months and I am very impressed with the results I have been getting, as well as the time it saves me. Ideal for any plasterer to have in their toolbox.
The medium CURVA adjusts in or out enough to cater for most common curved ceilings I've come across in my career.
For very tight curves or larger curves, there could be a smaller, and a larger tool produced, covering every possibility. My prototype I have built and used, is the medium CURVA tool.
The CTJRVA consists of a thin flexible curved plate attached at two points which can be adjusted by loosening the nut and pushing or pulling apart the arms, creating a tighter or bigger curve. You can then simply tighten the nut and continue the job in hand using the adjacent handle.
CURVA
Key to drawings (on page 2) (1) Curved thin stainless sprung or flexible steel working surface -250mm x 85mm (2) Pivot arms-130mm x 15mm x 3nini (3) Joining plates -riveted to curved sprung steel (1) and welded to pivot arms (2) 30mm x 55mm x3mm (Positioned 10mm from top and 10mm from side on curved steel (1)).
(4) Centre bar -130mm x 25mm x 2mm welded to one pivot arm (2) and pin slot in the other end (20mm x 10mm).
(5) 8mm bolt welded to other pivot aim to accurately adjust curve of steel plate (1) (6) Handle -120mm x 34mm diameter (7) Butterfly nut (8mm) to adjust curve and lock position -located on 8mm bolt (5) (8) Handle bolt (8mm) Washers between all moving parts.
The CURVA is designed to create a plastered curve between a wall and a ceiling, or where one already exists and needs re-plastering.
Butterfly nut (7) is loosened, then the pivot arms (2) are adjusted to maintain the correct curve. The butterfly nut (7) is then tightened to lock the position.
The CURVA is used like a trowel, but only on a curved surface.
Claims (5)
- Claims 1. The Curva is a curved trowel tool used to plaster a curve where a ceiling meets a wall with no stopping point (a curved corner).
- 2. Adjustable to cater for most curved surfaces.
- 3. Lockable to the required position via a nut.
- 4. Can be used left or right-handed.
- 5. As easy to clean and maintain as a standard plastering trowel.amendments to the claims have been fild as follows The Curva is a new and innovative trowel designed to create a plastered curve where a ceiling meets a wall. It has a curved blade which can be adjusted for a variety of different size requirements. This tool has a locking wing nut to secure the curved blade into the correct position for the job in hand. The user can loosen the wing nut, squeeze the ends of the working surface (the blade) together or pull apart. to set the desired positions and then simply tighten the wing nut, locking the position. This action can be performed very quickly. so the job in hand can be finished without any problems and with the least amount of exertion. It also means that no other tools are needed to adjust this tool, such as screwdrivers.Considering the function of the Curia, there are few moving parts. It consists of only one small threaded pin, with a wing nut to set the tool to the desired setting. There is also only one pivot point where the pivot arms meet the handle. This makes the Curia easier to keep clean and maintain. When working in a plastering environment, it is vital that all tools can be cleaned quickly and easily before any plaster hardens on the work, or the actual tool. If plaster is allowed to build up on plastering tools, it makes the tool harder to use, prone to corrosion, and may cause :: lack of accuracy. S *The Curia has a handle which is positioned adjacent to the blade (at 90 degrees), this allows for leverage when plastering. As plaster gets harder and harder, this is very important to apply extra pressure.* ::: If the handle was positioned in any other way, it wotild make the job in hand that much harder to complete. This tool can be used left-handed or right-handed to suit the user, and also to cater for left hand and right hand corners. As the blade of the Curia is adjusted, the ends of the blade stay at 90 degrees to each other. This means that no matter how big or small the desired curve is set to, the tool will always maintain the wall and ceiling lines, and remain square. It will leave no lines or marks on the ceiling or wall.and so no further finishing is required. The consistent 90 degree angle is achievable due to the rigidity of the plates attached to the pivot arms. These are welded into position to prevent loss of the angle, and then riveted to the flexible blade (the working area). If a larger angle is required, (more obtuse), such as where a ceiling is sloped at more than 90 degrees. the Curva can still be used to create a curved surface. The user can manipulate the tool to finish the desired curve, also with minimal use of any other trowel type tool, producing a perfectly finished curve. *.... * *SS 55.SS * S * IS * S S S.. * * 5* * S * 5***
