Abstract

A notice board 1 comprises a sheet of dielectric material such as a fluoropolymer plastic which has triboelectric properties. Rubbing a piece of paper 2 on the surface of the board 1 sets up an electrostatic charge on the paper 2 and on the board 1 which enables the paper 2 to adhere to the surface of the board 1.

Description

Electrostatic Notice Board
Background
This invention relates to display of information on a plane surface such as a notice board. A notice board commonly comprises a plane surface to which paper and other objects are adhered. Adhesion is effected by means of magnetism where the plane surface includes a ferromagnetic material and magnets are attached to the surface trapping pieces of paper at the joint. Other means of holding paper to the surface include sticking pins to a penetrable medium, using a low tack adhesive. Other than the low tack adhesive, whch performance declines over time, the existing methods involve additional equipment to effect the sticking of the paper to the surface and this equipment may be lost and, in the case of the pins, are awkward and hazardous to use.
Statement of Invention
To solve this problem the invention proposes a new way of attaching paper on to a plane surface. The invention utilises the triboelectric properties of different materials. A static charge is generated on two dissimilar materials such that the first is attracted to the second resulting in a weak bond between them and an adhesive affect. In this manner with the plane surface comprising the first material such as a fluoropolymer and the paper or other material comprising the second material then paper can be stuck to a notice board without the need of pins or magnetic material.
Advantages The paper can be attached to the board without the need of any pins or magnet. The board also allows the paper to be moved across its surface without the necessity to remove and reattach such paper.
Introduction to the Drawings
The drawings provided will illustrate two important features of the invention.
Figure 1 shows the mechanism of attaching paper to the board by making use of triboelectric effect.
Figure 2 shows the features of the board enabling easy arrangement of the paper without the need of removal and reattachment.
Detail Descriptions
Figure 1: The paper 2 is attached to the board 1 which comprises a dielectric material such a fluoropolymer by means of manually rubbing the paper 2 on the surface of the board 1. The rubbing motion generates electrostatic charges on the paper 2 and the board 1 which sets up a force adhering the paper 2 to the board 1.
Figure 2: The paper 2 can be dragged across the surface of the board 1 from position A to position B without being detached from the surface of the board 1, Drawings Refer to Patent (Electrostatic Noticeboard)_drawings Title
