Abstract

This invention relates to an open ended plastic disposable container enclosure unit which is used to protect and partially enclose the contents of the range of sizes of opened cans, jars or containers normally used for domestic purposes containing food which are usually stored on a shelf inside a cupboard or refrigerator whilst the units are manufactured using state of the art processes and material similar to the manufacture of rolled up plastic food storage bags which are then snapped off a roll or stored separately for use as required whilst the material to be used for the units is to be sufficiently transparent so as to see the enclosed contents. The enclosure may be made from thin plastics material and may include a unit body 1, a handling tab 3, a sealing strip 4, and may be provided on a roll. The enclosure may be provided with elasticized means.

Description

Opened can or container enclosure.
This invention relates to an open ended plastic disposable container enclosure unit which is used to protect and partially enclose the contents of the range of sizes of opened cans, jars or containers normally used for domestic purposes containing food which are usually stored on a shelf inside a cupboard or refrigerator whilst the units are manufactured using state of the art processes and material similar to the manufacture of rolled up plastic food storage bags which are then snapped off the roll for use as required whilst the material to be used for the units is to be sufficiently transparent so as to see the enclosed contents.
The enclosures can also be manufactured as separate units which can be packed inside state of the art containers to be dispensed for use individually.
Each enclosure unit is manufactured to such a size, shape and number of folds at each side to suit the state of the art manufacturing process whilst still being easy to handle and use on the largest or smallest of opened cans or containers in the range of sizes normally used for domestic food storage purposes for which they are manufactured. Elasticised means which are suitable to the manufacturing process may be used adjacent to and around the entrance of the enclosure if a more air tight attachment to the cans or containers is desirable.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which all drawings are diagrammatic and not to scale and are for descriptive purposes only.
It should be noted that the thin plastic enclosure will distort in shape when pulled down over a can or container and will approximately follow the contour of the can or container and that the drawings are diagrammatic and for descriptive purposes only..
Figure 1, shows a diagrammatic drawing of an enclosure unit 1, in-situ over a typical open ended can or container 2, with handling tab 3, sealing banded strip 4, with resulting matching cut-out profile from 3, along the bottom edge with Plan View above.
Figure 2, shows large size opened can or container using same sized enclosure unit.
Figure 3, shows smallest size can or container with same sized enclosure unit.
Figure 4, shows view of a portion of an unrolled section of a roll comprising enclosure unit body 1, seal I weld band 2, curved snap-off separation line with profile to be best suited for use and manufacturing purposes 3, internal and external fold lines 4.
Section A-A showing folds in enclosure unit body material together with enlarged diagrammatic view of right hand section of enclosure ( opposite on left hand side).
Figure 5, shows a side view of a large open ended can or container with enclosure unit described in-situ 1, seal / weld band 2, snap-off profiled handling and separation line 3, large can 5, supporting surface 8.
With plan view above.
Figure 6, shows a side view of a small open ended can or container 7, with same enclosure as previously described in-situ 1, seal I weld band 2, profiled handling and snap-off separation line 3, supporting surface 8.
Figure 7, shows a view of a portion of an unrolled section of enclosure unit body 1, with seal / weld band and best handling width 2, straight snap-off separation line of enclosure best suited for handling use and manufacturing purposes 3, three internal and external bend lines 4, equal at each side.
Section A-A showing three folds in enclosure unit body material at each side together with enlarged diagrammatic view of right hand section of enclosure (opposite hand on left hand side).
Figure 8, shows a side view of a medium sized open ended can or container using enclosure unit body 1, as shown in Figure 7, seal / weld band 2, with straight snap-off separation line 3, medium sized can 6, supporting surface 8.
Figure 9, Section of enclosure unit with four folds at each side to suit use and / or manufacturing purposes.
