Abstract
A reusable bag 100 for holding cans to be crushed by a vehicle wheel comprises a front part 102, a rear part 104 and a flap 106 flexibly attached to the rear part which may be closed by attachment to the front part and may be opened for gaining access to an interior of the bag. A plurality of lateral spines 108 extends over a width of the front part. One or more strips of material 110 are attached between an inner surface of the front part and an inner surface of the rear part, separating the interior of the bag into a corresponding two or more longitudinal channels 112 for holding cans 114. The flap can be opened to allow a user to place one or more cans in the longitudinal channels and the flap can be closed. When the bag is full, or the user wants to crush the cans that it contains, the user positions the bag so that the rear part is on a flat resilient surface, such as a driveway, and then drives one wheel of a vehicle onto the front part. The weight of the vehicle on the spines crushes the one or more cans. The flap can then be opened and the crushed cans removed and transferred to a recycling bin.
Description
Patent application Of Christopher Bray For Can crusher
Field of Invention
This invention relates to a can crusher, and more particularly to a reusable bag for holding cans to be crushed by a vehicle wheel in which the cans are crushed by the weight of the car transmitted via a wheel. The cans are, for example, drink cans or cans that have contained tinned food.
Background of the Invention
Approaches for crushing can by driving over them are known. For example, JP2006150438A discloses an approach in which the cans are contained in a disposable fibre bag; US6000324 discloses a reusable device for individually holding a multiplicity of empty aluminium cans in a horizontal position in slots; JP08155690A discloses a disposable device for holding empty cans in a predetermined position; and FR2553684A discloses an approach for use in a recycling plant in which cans are positioned in a layer and covered by a thick metal sheet.
Disclosure of Invention
From the foregoing, it may be appreciated that a need has arisen for a reusable crushing device for use on a person's driveway or garage which may be easily loaded with cans for crushing and in which the crushed cans can be easily and conveniently transferred to a domestic recycling bin. The cans are, for example, drink cans or cans that have contained tinned food.
This is a recycling unit designed to crush a number of cans simultaneously, and reduce collection times of household recycling. The unit is placed on the drive or in the garage of a user. When the user's car is parked on the device, the cans are crushed.
According to some, but not necessarily all, embodiments of the invention there is provided a reusable bag for holding cans to be crushed by a vehicle wheel. The bag has a front part, a rear part and a flap flexibly attached to the rear part which may be closed by attachment to the front part and may be opened for gaining access to an interior of the bag. A plurality of lateral spines extend over a width of the front part. One or more strips of material are attached between an inner surface of the front part and an inner surface of the rear part, separating the interior of the bag into a corresponding two or more longitudinal channels for holding cans. The flap may be opened to allow a user to place one or more cans in the longitudinal channels and the flap can be closed. When the bag is full, or the user wants to crush the cans that it contains, the user positions the bag so that the rear part is on a flat resilient surface, such as a driveway, and then drives one wheel of a vehicle onto the front part. The weight of the vehicle on the spines crushes the one or more cans. The flap can then be opened and the crushed cans removed.
When not in use the bag may be rolled up for storage.
The plurality of lateral spines may comprise some kind of rigid material, such as aluminium.
The flap may have a fastener for attachment to the front part.
The one or more strips of material attached between an inner surface of the front part and an inner surface of the rear part are may be attached by stitching.
The front part of the bag may include two layers of material. The material may be ripstop fabric. The plurality of lateral spines may be located in pockets formed between the two layers of material.
Brief Description of Drawings
For a more complete explanation of the present invention and the technical advantages thereof, reference is now made to the following description and the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows plan views of the interior (right) and exterior (left) of a reusable bag for holding cans to be crushed by a vehicle wheel; and Figure 2 shows a sectional view of the bag.
Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
Embodiments of the present invention and their technical advantages may be better understood by referring to Figure 1, which shows plan views of the interior (right) and exterior (left) of a reusable bag (100) for holding cans to be crushed by a vehicle wheel. The bag has a front part (102), a rear part (104) and a flap (106) flexibly attached to the rear part which may be closed by attachment to the front part and may be opened for gaining access to an interior of the bag. A plurality of lateral spines (108) extend over a width of the front part. One or more strips of material (110) are attached between an inner surface of the front part and an inner surface of the rear part, separating the interior of the bag into a corresponding two or more longitudinal channels (112) for holding cans (114) .
Referring now to Figure 2, which shows a sectional view of the bag with the top surface shown higher than it would be in practice in order to display the features of the invention, the front part of the bag can include two layers of material. The material may be ripstop fabric. The plurality of lateral spines may be located in pockets (116) formed between the two layers of material.
Claims (6)
