Abstract
A foot-stool or foot-rest for comfort or physiotherapy comprises an internal motor to enable the height of the stool to be adjusted and is controlled by an infrared hand held remote control. A heated pad or cooling pack may be incorporated into the top of the stool. The top may also incorporate a massage unit or memory foam. Flip-up safety bars may be attached to the sides of the stool. The lifting mechanism may comprise a telescopic arm and a pair of metal strips pivoting at the centre to form a cross-shape. The motor may be powered by rechargable batteries.
Description
Foot Stool This invention relares to a foot stool that can rise and fall to meet the needs of certain medical, physiotherapy and comfort needs.
Certain medical conditions require that legs are elevated to ease symptoms. This invention allows any seated person to do this at a push of a button.
The foot stool allows the seated person to adjust the bight of their legs to a precise hight with just the use of a handheld infrared control. It can be used by any person to aid relaxation and comfort. Preferably the top can be fitted with heat pads. Preferably the top can be fitted with cool packs. Preferably the top can incorporate a massage unit. Prefarably the top can incorpo-rate memory foam.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the internal mechanism in the lowered position.
Figure 2 shows the internal mechanism in the raised position.
Figure 3 shows the internal mechanism from the end.
Two cubes fit one inside the other. The top cube is slightly larger and has an open bottom. The lower cube has an open top. The lower cube houses an electric motor attached to a telescopic arm, which in turn is attached to an inner metal frame. This frame is fixed to the inside of the lower cube along its bottom edge. The top cube being slightly larger fits over the lower cube.
The top cube is attached to the top part of the frame which is fixed into the bottom cube. Two strips of metal are pivoted in the middle to form a cross shape, a set of these are fixed to both of the long sides of the internal frame, pivoted to allow movement. The top and bottom of one side of the cross are pinned into position. The top and bottom of the other side of the cross are allowed to slide along parallel slots at the top and bottom of the other end of the frame.
When the motor extends the telescopic arm, the sliding end of the cross travels along the slots to lower the top cube (fig. 1). The motor contracts the telescopic arm and the sliding end of the cross travels along the slots which causes the cube to raise (fig.2). The motor is powered by a rechargable battery and controlled by a infrared hand control, which is picked up by a sensor mounted in the side of the foot stool. The foot stool would come supplied with a mains recharger.
