Abstract

A clothes hanger including a hook component 1 and a hanger component 2, both formed of foldable and creasable sheet material such as cardboard, the hanger component having a slot 23, 24 for revieving the hook component. The hook component comprises an elongate strip which is shaped to form a suspension hook 5 at one end and may have a tongue 17 at the other, the hanger component has a slot 23 for receiving the hook component and may also have a slot 24 for receiving the tongue of the hook component. The hook component may be creased and bent to form an apertured projecting portion for holding a tie. The hook component may be further secured by engaging a tab 13 over the apex 20 of the hanger component. The hook component may comprise middle and bottom portions which project from the hanger component when in use. The middle (10, Fig 2) and bottom (12, Fig 2) portions may have aligned apertures (15,16, Fig 2). The hook component may be creased to form a short connecting portion between the middle and bottom portions (11, Fig 3).

Description

CLOTHES HANGER
TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates o clothes hangers.
BACKGROUND
Clothes hangers are often formed from a hanger portion of wood or pIasic and a hook portion which may be of meaI or pIasic.
Although individual clothes hangers are relatively inexpensive, large numbers of them may be required in esablishmens such as hoeIs or hospitals, which may also be required o replace the stock a frequent intervals. Visitors may take them away, and concerns about infection control in hospitals mean that, ideally, each paien should be given a new hanger for their own personal use.
The present invention seeks o provide a new and inventive form of clothes hanger which is lighweigh, inexpensive, versatile, and is capable of prominently carrying advertising or promotional matter.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention proposes a clothes hanger including a hook component and a hanger component both formed of foldable and creasable sheet material, the hook component comprising an elongate strip which is shaped o form a suspension hook a one end, and the hanger component has a sloe for receiving the hook component.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The following description and the accompanying drawings referred o therein are included by way of non-limiting example in order o illusrae how the invention may be pu into practice.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a general view of a first form of clothes hanger in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 is a more detailed view of the hook component of the hanger; Figure 3 is a similar view of the hook component which has been placed in one use configuration; Figure 4 shows the hook component placed in an afternaive use configuration; and Figure 5 is a general view of a modified hook component which can be used in the clothes hanger.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Referring firsdy o Fig. 1, the clothes hanger includes a hook component 1 and a hanger component 2, both of which are die cu from inexpensive foldable and creasable sheet material such as cardboard.
The hanger component 2 is of generally rhomboid shape with an apex 20 and a pair of downward-sloping edges 21 and 22.
Adjacent o the apex 20, o accommodate the hook component 1 there is a op sloe 23, below which is a shorter lower sloe 24.
The hanger 2 may also include a variety of other notches and aperWres for engaging various items of clothing, e.g. a relatively long hole 25 for receiving a pair of trousers and shorter holes 26 and 27 for receiving socks. The sloping edges 21 and 22 may also have notches 28 and 29 adjacent o their lower ends for engagement with a shire or skirt for example.
Referring o Fig. 2, the hook component 1 is an elongate parallel-sided strip which is shaped o form a suspension hook 5 a is upper end. The strip is formed with three transverse creases 6, 7 and 8, which divide the strip into a top portion 9, a middle portion 10, a relatively short connecting portion 11 and a longer bottom portion 12. The top portion 9 has a U-shaped slit forming a downwardly-projecting tab 13, below which is a transverse slot 14 of similar size to the lower slot 24. Middle portion 10 and bottom portion 12 are both formed with large rectangular apertures 15 and 16, and the lower end of the bottom portion 16 is formed with a tongue 17, wide enough to be a close fit in the slots 14 and 24.
The clothes hanger may be assembled by the user from the initially flat components 1 and 2. To assemble the hanger the hook component 1 is inserted through the top slot 23 and bent along the crease line 6 so that the middle portion 10 lies horizontal as shown in Fig. 3. The top portion lies alongside the hanger component so that the tab 13 can be engaged over the apex 20 to lock the two parts together. The bottom portion 12 slopes back towards the hanger component 2, where the tongue 17 is inserted into the lower slot 24. The apertures 15 and 16 conveniently allow a tie (or similar item) to be passed vertically through the projecting portions 10 and 12 holding the item clear of the other clothes and less likely to drop off.
If the projecting portion of the hook is not required, the hook component can be placed into the alternative configuration shown in Fig. 4. After passing the hook component through the top slot 23 the bottom portion 12 is bent upwards and the tongue 17 is inserted through the slot 14. The hanger component is supported on the connecting portion 11.
The connecting portion could be omitted as shown in Fig. 5, e.g. if flat assembly is no required or if the components are formed from thinner material such as stiff plastic sheet.
The clothes hanger is lighweigh, inexpensive, and takes up liWe space prior o assembly. The clothes hanger is capable of being printed o prominently carry advertising or promotional matter, so ha hotels may positively encourage guests o take the clothes hangers away as a form of advertising.
Whilst the above description places emphasis on the areas which are believed o be new and addresses specific problems which have been identified, i is intended that the features disclosed herein may be used in any combination which is capable of providing a new and useful advance in the are.
