Description

* PRUNING HOOK WITH TOOTHED ENGAGEMENT
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
1. Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a shearing tool and, more particularly, to a pruning hook for a gardening purpose to shear branches or leaves at a higher location.
2. Description of the Related Art
A conventional pruning hook in accordance with the prior art shown in Fig. 7 is used to shear branches of a tree at a higher location and comprises an extension shank 50 having an end portion provided with a mounting seat 51, a driving arm 60 pivotally connected with the mounting seat 51 of the extension shank 50, an operation cord 631 mounted on the driving arm 60, and an elastic member 54 biased between the driving arm 63 and the mounting seat 51 of the extension shank 50. The mounting seat 51 of the extension shank 50 is provided with a fixed blade 53 and a first pivot hole 52. The driving arm 60 has a first end provided with a movable blade 61 and a second pivot hole 62 and a second end provided with a driving portion 63. The second pivot hole 62 of the driving arm 60 is pivotally connected with the first pivot hole 52 of the mounting seat 51. The movable blade 61 of the driving arm 60 is movable relative to the fixed blade 53 of the mounting seat 51 to perform a shearing action. The driving portion 63 of the driving arm 60 is connected with the operation cord 631. Thus, when the operation cord 631 is driven by a user, the driving arm 60 is pivoted about the first pivot hole 52 and the second pivot hole 62 to move the movable blade 61 relative to the fixed blade 53 so as to perform a shearing action. However, the user has to apply a larger force to drive the driving arm 60 so as to perform the shearing action, thereby wasting the user's energy. In addition, a clearance is easily produced between the driving arm 60 and the mounting seat 51 of the extension shank 50 during a long-term utilization so that the movable blade 61 cannot shear the fixed blade 53 closely and exactly.

The driving rack 36 of the driving arm 30 is located between the pivot hole 31 and the connecting hole 33. The driving rack 36 of the driving arm 30 has a curved shape and has a radian that is equal to a circumferential projection of the pivot hole 31 so that the driving rack 36 of the driving arm 30 is centered at the pivot hole 31. The driving arm 30 has a mediate section provided with a second fixing hole 32 which is located between the pivot hole 31 and the connecting hole 33. The pivot hole 31, the second fixing hole 32 and the connecting hole 33 of the driving arm 30 are arranged to have a triangular shape.
The elastic member 34 is a tensile spring and has two hook portions 341 formed on two opposite ends thereof The two hook portions 341 of the elastic member 34 are hooked onto the first fixing hole 15 of the mounting seat 11 and the second fixing hole 32 of the driving arm 30 respectively to drive and move the movable blade 22 of the driven arm 20 relative to the fixed blade 12 of the mounting seat 11 to the closed position thereof.

In operation, referring to Figs. 3-6 with reference to Figs. 1 and 2, when the operation cord 35 is pulled downward, the fixed pulley 351 is moved downward to move the connecting hole 33 of the driving arm 30 downward so that the driving arm 30 is pivoted downward about the pivot hole 31 of the driving arm 30 and the secondary shaft hole 14 of the mounting seat 11. In such a manner, the driving rack 36 of the driving arm 30 is moved to drive the driven rack 24 of the driven arm 20 so that the driven arm 20 is pivoted downward about the rotation hole 21 of the driven arm 20 and the main shaft hole 13 of the mounting seat 11, and the movable blade 22 of the driven arm 20 is moved relative to the fixed blade 12 of the mounting seat ii to the closed position as shown in Fig. 6 so as to perform a cutting action. At this time, the elastic member 34 is expanded by the pulling force.
On the contrary, when the pulling force applied on the operation cord disappears, the second fixing hole 32 of the driving arm 30 is moved upward by the restoring force of the elastic member 34 so that the driving arm is pivoted upward about the pivot hole 31 of the driving arm 30 and the secondary shaft hole 14 of the mounting seat 11. In such a manner, the driving rack 36 of the driving arm 30 is moved to drive the driven rack 24 of the driven arm 20 so that the driven arm 20 is pivoted upward about the rotation hole 21 of the driven arm 20 and the main shaft hole 13 of the mounting seat 11, and the movable blade 22 of the driven arm 20 is moved relative to the fixed blade 12 of the mounting seat 11 to the open position as shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
Referring to Figs. 4-6 with reference to Figs. 1-3, the driven rack 24 of the driven arm 20 has a free end provided with a first toothed portion 241, and the driving rack 36 of the driving arm 30 has a free end provided with a second toothed portion 361. A first extension line "Li" is defined and extended through the first toothed portion 241 of the driven rack 24 and the main shaft hole 13 of the mounting seat 11, a second extension line "L2" is defined and extended through the second toothed portion 361 of the driving rack 36 and the main shaft hole 13 of the mounting seat 11, and a third extension line "L3" is defined and extended through the connecting hole 33 of the driving arm 30 and the main shaft hole 13 of the mounting seat 11. In addition, a first angle "Ri" is defined between the first extension line "Ll" and the third extension line "L3", and a second angle "R2" is defined between the third extension line "L3" and the second extension line "L2".
As shown in Fig. 4, the first angle "Ri" is equal to the second angle "R2" when the movable blade 22 of the driven arm 20 and the fixed blade 12 of the mounting seat 11 are disposed at the open position. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, each of the first angle "Ri" and the second angle "R2" is ranged between ten to twenty degrees (10-20°).
As shown in Fig. 5, the first angle "Ri" is gradually greater than the second angle "R2" when the movable blade 22 of the driven arm 20 and the fixed blade 12 of the mounting seat 11 are disposed between the open position and the closed position.
As shown in Fig. 6, the first angle "Ri" is much greater than the second angle "R2" when the movable blade 22 of the driven arm 20 and the fixed blade 12 of the mounting seat ii are disposed at the closed position. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the first angle "Ri" is ranged between twenty to forty degrees (20-40°), and the second angle "R2" is smaller than ten degrees (10°).
Accordingly, the driven arm 20 is pivoted about the main shaft hole 13 of the mounting seat ii, and the driving arm 30 is pivoted about the secondary shaft hole 14 of the mounting seat 11, so that the driven arm 20 and the driving arm 30 have different pivot centers, and the total arm length of the driven arm 20 and the driving arm 30 has a larger force arm and a larger torque output so as to achieve an energy-saving effect. In addition, the driving rack 36 of the driving arm 30 meshes with the driven rack 24 of the driven arm 20 so that the driving arm 30 and the driven arm 20 are connected exactly to perform the cutting action smoothly and stably. Further, the driving arm 30 and the driven arm 20 are limited between the mounting seat 11 of the extension shank and the limit plate 40 so that the driving arm 30 and the driven arm 20 are pivoted exactly and smoothly.
Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment(s) as mentioned above, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the scope of the present invention. It is, therefore, contemplated that the appended claim or claims will cover such modifications and variations that fall within the true scope of the invention.
