Abstract
An illuminated electroluminescent back box for a motorcycle or scooter includes the back box 7, an inverter 5, tape wire and flexible wire 4 and 6, electroluminescent panel(s) 2. The electro luminescent panel (2) may be powered by a connection to the vehicle's 12v supply. The electroluminescent panels may be increased in shape, size, number or position and varied in colour of illumination, design or purpose. Panels may be illuminated constantly or by segment in sequence.
Description
ILLUMINATED ELECTROLUMINESCENT BACK BOX
This invention relates to an illuminated motorcycle I scooter back box using electroluminescent technology to illuminate a company logo, design or advertisement, without loosing internal storage space or protruding externally, thus maintaining the shape of the box, it's storage capacity but maximising its advertising potential and increasing its noticeability at night.
The invention allows a back box to be illuminated for advertising and such like but the area of storage within the back box to be maintained and still secured in it's traditional method to the bike ie. with the use of metal strips, nuts and bolts, and neither will it protrude from the external side of the box and therefore allowing the shape of the back box to be maintained, however, when in use, illuminated if required.
Unlike the average pizza bike back box currently used, where a design or logo is externally printed or applied to the plastic, and generally, only immediately noticeable during daylight hours, the illuminated motorcycle back box uses electroluminescent technology to allow the design or logo to be illuminated when applied, in full or by illuminating individual segments of the design in sequence to suit preference, without loosing internal storage space or protrude externally, due to it's paper thin application and tape' style wire to power the panels.
This product will allow a company brand, logo, or design to be immediately noticeable at night, thus maximising advertising potential and brand awareness in the dark, when the general method currently used, to a large degree, looses this effect. This electroluminescent illuminated back box is especially of benefit to pizza delivery companies and such like, who's majority business is at night where advertising potential and brand awareness on their delivery bikes at this time, is largely lost.
The product also offers a considerable safety aspect to the rider, since it increases the visibility of the bike and therefore reduces the risk of the rider and bike going un-noticed, and potentially being involved in a collision, or coming to harm with other road users.
The illuminated back box specifically using electroluminescent technology is robust, waterproof, low energy consuming so can be powered using a simple connection to a bike I scooter battery which will draw a minimal current so will not dramatically affect the life span of the battery, and is scratch/scuff resistant to ensure durability. The panel itself can be fully illuminated or illuminate in a sequence to maximise the visual impact or remain unlit if required.
The life span of the illuminated panel is substantial, about 10,000 hours and offers an unobtrusive brightness of approximately 5Ocd so is perfect for combining in the innovation of this product.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: * figure 1 shows the back box with the electroluminescent panels positioned on the sides * figure 2 shows the inside of the back box to include the tape wires and small inverter which is drawn in the bottom corner, however this would normally be placed using velcro or adhesive in a top corner so it allows clear passage for sliding goods in and out.
In figure 1 the back box is shown 7 comprising of three 1, 2 and 3(not visible) electroluminescent panels, which could take the shape of any design but are shown here as squares, with one electroluminescent panel I design on the front flap 8 which would pull down to allow access to inside the box and the other two 2 and 3 positioned on the left and right sides if looking at the box from front 8 on. An additional panel could also be placed on the rear of the box 9 following the same illustrated method of 1, 2 and 3.
In figure 2 the arrangement of tape wires can be seen 4 which join to the inverter 5, which in turn connects with the wire 6, leading out the box, and from there would connect to a suitable power source from the scooter / bike battery ie.12v supply. The wires are made from flexible plastic and can manipulated to suit any configuration of the electroluminescent panels, and as such can be moved out of the way or between any securing plates or means used to attach the box 7 to the bike / scooter. The inverter 5 can be placed anywhere in the box but preferably in a top corner using velcro or adhesive so it allows clear passage for sliding goods in and out. The inverter 5 is minimal in size and is smaller in scale to the box than that of the illustration shown. For additional protection to the wiring, they can be secured flat against the insides of the box using an adhesive tape such as Duck tape'.The inverter 5 has an on off switch and allows the design / logo to illuminated in a preferred sequence where individual areas of a logo for example could be illuminated ie. the name, then the background, or simply allow the logo / design to remain permanently illuminated or permanently off.

- CLAIMS1. An illuminated electroluminescent back box for use on a motorbike I scooter or other motorised form of transport such like, which uses electroluminescent technology to allow the design or logo to be illuminated when applied, in full or by illuminating individual segments of the design in sequence to suit preference, without loosing internal storage space or protrude externally, due to it's paper thin application and tape' style wire to power the panels.
- 2. An illuminated electroluminescent back box according to claim 1 which can be secured to a motorbike, scooter or such like for the purpose of illuminating an advertisement, logo, promotion or such like in a surrounding where a standard, general printed I applied design, logo, brand, promotion or such like would loose its visual impact since it was not illuminated, due to dark surroundings or poor areas of visibilty, and so maximising brand awareness and advertising potential at these times.
- 3. An illuminated electroluminescent back box according to claims 1 and 2 which reduces by increasing the visibility of the bike when stationary and in transit, the risk of the rider and bike going un-noticed and therefore potentially being involved in a collision, or coming to harm with other road users thus improving the riders safety when in transit.
- 4. An illuminated electroluminescent back box according to claims 1 and 2 which allows all sides of the box and also in the event there should be more than four sides, to show an illuminated design, logo, brand, promotion and such like, in an illuminated form, illuminated in segments, frames, patterns or sequence variable to its purpose during the day or night, light and dark and at times of poor or reduced visibility due to weather conditions or surrounding environment.Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows:-CLAIMS1. An illuminated back box for a motorcycle or scooter, comprising a design or logo applied to its surface in electroluminescent material.2. An illuminated back box for a motorcycle or scooter as defined in claim 1, wherein the design is illuminated in full.3. An illuminated back box for a motorcycle or scooter as defined in claim 1, wherein the design or logo is illuminated in individual segments, in sequence.4. An illuminated back box for a motorcycle or scooter as defined in claims 1 -3, wherein a design or logo is applied to each of a plurality of sides of the box. a... * a *e..S*I*55S a S * a. * a a * a.S * a** aaa * *S*aaaaSS S
