Abstract

A bed footboard unit or ottoman comprises a lifting mechanism for lifting a visual display screen 30, wherein the lifting mechanism comprises: a pneumatically or hydraulically actuable lifting arm 28; and a mount 32 arranged to receive a visual display screen. The lifting arm is actuable to move the mount between a stored position (figure 5) and a viewing position, in the stored position the mount being located such that a visual display screen received thereon would be stored within the footboard unit or ottoman, and in the viewing position the mount being located such that a visual display screen, such as a television, received thereon would be substantially outside the footboard unit or ottoman. The lifting mechanism may further comprise guiding members 26 and the lifting arm may pivot during movement between the two positions.
