Abstract
A camera and camcorder stability device 1 which improves the quality of photographs and camcorder output and increases the versatility of cameras and camcorders. The device consists of a standard thread adjustable camera mount on one end of a two (Figure 4), three (Figure 3) or four (Figure 5) part telescopically connected tube assembly which is lockable in any position. At the other end of the telescopic tubes is a U shaped end piece 2 sized to slip over a trouser top, skirt waistband or belt. Optionally the tubes are lockable by either a twisting or lever action and the device may allow pictures or recordings to be obtained from an elevated position.
Description
Camera & Camcorder Stability Aid
Background
This invention relates to a low cost compact device which improves quality and increases versatility of lightweight still camera and camcorder output. It is directed at the amateur user whose output can be affected by the difficulty of holding a camera / camcorder steady whether stationary or on the move. It will also enable photographs or video to be taken from an elevated position.
Statement of invention
The improvements are made by providing a rigid connection from a camera or camcorder to the waist area. This is achieved by means of alloy or rigid plastic tubes which retract telescopically and are lockable in any position enabling adjustment to suit individual user's height. The tubes are locked into position by a twist to grip' or similar locking action.
The device incorporates a tilting miniature adjustable standard camera adaptor on one end and means of resting on a belt, trouser or skirt waistband at the other end.
The telescopic action allows the device to retract for convenient stowage Advantages The device can be brought into use in a few seconds and is simple to use.
The device greatly improves vertical and horizontal movement stability.
The device enables smoother camcorder panoramic shooting.
The device can be used to increase the height of taking photographs or video.
The device reduces the probability of the subject moving out of frame enabling the user to take his or her eye from the view finder for longer periods of time; this will improve the user's enjoyment of the event being filmed.
The device is relatively inexpensive to manufacture. Miniature adjustable camera adaptors are already produced and fitted to miniature tripods. Telescopic twist to grip' or lever clamp' lockable telescopic shafts are currently used on many inexpensive products.

Detailed description
The device consists of a standard adjustable camera mount similar to those fitted to a miniature tripod, a series of tubes designed to extend and retract telescopically which are lockable in any position and a U shaped end fixture sized to slip over a trouser belt, or skirt waistband.
The optimum number of tubes to facilitate the device retracting to a convenient length for stowage is three. Tubes are belled or expanded at one end to prevent them pulling out of the assembled device.
A four section assembly could be produced where shorter retracted length is required for more convenient stowage and a two section assembly could be produced where retracted length is not critical.
All derivatives are sized to enable adjustment to suit individual users' height.
The tubular sections are locked into position by twist to grip' locking sleeves with internal olives or lever clamps as used in typical standard camera tripods and other devices where an extendable lockable shaft is required.
