Abstract

An emergency condensate release valve allows the condensate from a boiler, comprising an external condensate pipe, to drain into a receptacle inside a home should the external pipe become frozen or blocked. Preferably, the valve ensures that the boiler will still function properly providing there are no other issues with the boiler's internal workings. The valve may have universal compression type connections allowing it to fit various pipe sizes. The valve may be provided with a drain cap fitted with a rubber washer for a watertight seal and connected to the body of the valve with a loop and cord to ensure that the cap is not lost or misplaced. Preferably, the valve comprises a `T' shaped pipe with compression fittings to connect it to an existing condensate drain pipe, where the `T' part of the valve is fitted with a screw cap and washer. In use, the screw cap may be removed by the homeowner should the condensate pipe freeze or become blocked outside the premises, thus allowing the condensate to drain away into a receptacle, such as a bucket.

Description

Emergency Condensate Release Valve
Invention Description
Since the introduction of condensing central heating boilers and the recent onset of harsh winters in the UK there have been many cases of condensate pipes freezing when they discharge externally.
This usually stops the boiler from working until the pipe is thawed. This can prove difficult if the external pipe is long or of the wrong size. If the homeowner has to call a plumber to sort the problem then this can be expensive and take considerable time. This can be a particular problem for the old and families with young children who need to maintain a heated home during the winter months as well as a supply of hot water.
Once installed on the existing boiler condensate drain pipe inside the home the Emergency Condensate Release Valve can be used to drain away the condensate into a separate receptacle should the external section of the pipe become frozen or blocked. This will allow the boiler to function again until a plumber can be called or the external pipe thaws or is unblocked. This will mean minimal disruption to the homes heating and hot water supply. This valve is of a tee shaped construction and is supplied with compression connections to the existing condensate drain pipe to suit the slight size variations from different manufacturers. It has a screw cap on the end of the tee piece which is attached to the valve with a cord so it can't be lost or misplaced. The cap can be removed or replaced as and when required and reseals with a rubber washer to ensure it is watertight
