Abstract

A photographic printing process employing a suspension of graphite powder in a solution of gum arabic and potassium dichromate is disclosed. In use the mixture may be applied to fine water colour paper and air-dried. A negative is secured on top of the emulsion and the paper exposed to UV light thus hardening the dichromate in proportion to the amount of light exposure. The print is then place in a bath of cold water to remove unhardened areas of emulsion. This process may be repeated to build up an image. The mixture of gum acacia and bichromate does not require the use of pigments. The graphite is not absorbed into the fibers of the paper, but suspended in the gum solution, thus facilitating the clearing and washing of the image and yielding prints of higher contrast and density.
