Abstract

A coiled aluminium screen is deployed by a high torque motor and activated by pressures sensors attached to the window glass. When the glass is hit and smashed or cracked by a thief, burglar, intruder etc. this activates the motor and causes the screen to drawn up preventing access to the window display. The screen may be reset and returned to its housing ready for re-use.

Description

Anti Smash and Grab Screen.
The invention is a roller screen device to prevent smash and grab raids on retail shop windows.
Retail shop windows are typically laminated glass, usually a minimum of 8mm thick, often thicker. A heavy blow with a sledge hammer or similar, will still smash the glass. The plastic laminate layer can prevent immediate access to the displayed goods but a second blow will inevitably get right through.
My screen is an aluminium mesh (figure 1.) which is stored coiled around a shaft in the bottom housing unit (figure 1). In the upper housing unit is a high torque motor and gears used to rotate a winding shaft at high speed, this is attached to the screen by cables which draw the screen up (figure 2). My device is activated by pressure sensors mounted on the glass which are triggered by a blow to the glass.
After activation the screen may be re-set using a dedicated key (shown in red figure 1 and 2) which releases the screen and allows it to be returned to the bottom housing.
The housing units incorporate screw holes to allow secure fixing into place. 2.
