Abstract
The tip safe system consists of two units. Unit A, which may be a key fob, is a transmitter supported by its own rechargeable battery, which is charged by a vehicle's cigarette lighter socket. Button 2 (drawing 3) will raise the tipper bed, button 3 will lower the tipper bed and button 1 is to stop any function. Button 4, when pressed, releases a hidden key 5 which is then inserted into unit B. When the key 5 is turned in unit B it will power the system unit which is a receiver and also has a raise button 3 (drawing 4), lower button 4 and a stop button 5 on it. Unit B gets its power from the trailers power source. The two units connect via radio frequency with code hopping so that no two units can interfere with each other. The tip safe system, being operated on radio frequency, can keep the operator at a safe distance from the tipping trailer.
Description
Tip Safe This invention relates to a safe tipping system for conventional tipping trailers page 3 drawing 1, e.g. car and some commercial tipping trailers. A cable coming from a connection point on the trailer page 3 drawing 1 (B) to a hand held unit (A) normally controls these. This cable is long but restricts all round visual and can get damaged when dragged along the ground, causing wires to break and can also cause a short circuit. The other fault with the cable system is that the operator and members of the public could trip over the cable and cause injury to themselves.
To over-come this problem, the Tip Safe invention is a cable-less system as shown on page 3 drawing 2. A re-chargeable battery powers the hand held unit and the unit connected to the trailer is powered by the trailers source of power. The 2 units connect via radio frequency.
The advantages of the tip safe invention is that there are no cables can be damaged, the hand held unit can eliminate trip hazards and also the operator can stand at a safe distance from the tipping unit enabling all round visual. The other advantage of the Tip safe system is that this unit could also be fitted to other devices with hinge type systems that consist of manual handling. This Tip safe system can also be factory fit or retro fit.
It is preferable that the unit (B) is mounted on rubber mounts to absorb shock when the trailer etc is being moved. It is also preferable that the unit (B) has an ignition switch, the hand held unit (A) supports a hidden key and has a rechargeable socket unit so the battery inside can be charged by a vehicles cigarette lighter socket. It is also preferred that the unit (B) on the trailer has its own up, down and stop buttons for maintenance/safety purposes and preferred that the trailer unit (B) can also use variable voltages between 6 and 30 volts D.C. It is preferred the hand held unit (A) and the trailer unit (B) should be on code hopping so that no two devices near by can interfere with each other.
An example of the invention will be described by referring to the accompanying drawings page 3; Drawing 1; shows a conventional tipping system with the operator holding a hand held unit with electrical cable going to the trailers connection point.
Drawing 2; shows the Tip Safe system according to the invention.
The Tip Safe system page 3 drawing 2 comprises of two components, hand held unit (A) and trailer mounted unit (B). The trailer-mounted unit (B) is fastened to the trailer (0) preferably with rubber mounts to absorb shockivibrations. Electronic components including a receiver unit that receives signals from the hand held unit (A) trailer unit (B) uses the trailers (D) power source to get its power.
Page 4 Drawing 3; Hand held unit (A) has four buttons; press button I; to enable stop of all functions 2; to enable raising tipping unit 3; to enable lowering 4; releases hidden key Drawing 3; release hidden key (5) by pressing (4). This key (5) on the hand held unit A will then be inserted into the master key switch on trailer unit (B) drawing 4 (1) to power up the system. The hand held unit (A) drawing 3 can be removed from the trailer unit (B) drawing 4. The operator (C) drawing 2 can then operate the hand held unit from a safe distance.
On page 4 drawing (4), the tipping device unit has its own; I; master key switch to power up the unit 2; removable panel giving access to circuits & connections.
3; raise/lift button, for tipping device.
4; lowering button for tipping device.
5; stop button.
The hand held unit (A) on page 3 drawing 2 is controlled by the operator (C) using the radio remote unit pressing the raise/lower or stop buttons. The hand held unit (A) has a rechargeable battery inside it to supply its power.
The trailer unit page 3 drawing 2, is connected to trailer (D) tipping components when the raise button is pressed on hand held unit (A), it sends a signal to trailer imit (B) via radio frequency. Trailer unit (B) is connected to trailer (D) sends power to a electric pump motor to raise the trailer (D) tipper back and when the lower button (3) is pressed on hand unit (A) the trailer unit (B) connected to trailer (D) sends power to a release solenoid allowing trailer (D) tipper to lower. The hand held unit (A) and trailer unit (B) connect via radio frequency allowing the operator (C) to stand clear of trailer (D) when being operated. * 3
