Abstract

The tool is a drill bit A with a threaded hole D at an attachment end. A cable clamp attachment B may be screwed into the threaded hole of the drill bit whilst the other end may clamp onto a cable C. An extension piece (E, Figure 3) may also connect directly to the threaded hole of the drill bit. The extension piece may be threaded at one end and have a first hole drilled at the other end. A further smaller threaded hole and screw (F, Figure 3) at 90 degrees to the first hole enable a cable to be clamped inside. After drilling a hole the drill bit is left in situ and protruding from inside a wall so that the cable can be pulled through the wall.

Description

DESCRI PTION
Passing a Cable through a Wall The Drill and Pull is a device to allow the easy passing of a cable through a building wall. Normally, drilling a hole through a cavity wall and then threading a cable through the hole is no easy task, as often falling debris blocks the hole when the drill bit is removed. Also the inner wall hole and outer wall hole are rarely in line so increasing the difficulty in passing a cable through the wall.
Often pieces of plastic or straightened out wire coat hangers are used to assist in passing cable through the wall with sticky tape used to attach the cable but this does not overcome the problem of falling debris blocking the holes and quite often the holes need to be re-drilled to clear them.
My solution with the Drill and Pull consists of a wall drill bit that has a hole drilled into the rear of it ("0") which is then threaded to enable a cable clamp attachment ( "B") to be screwed into it that has a cable attached ("C"). The user would drill through the outer wall and through the cavity and inner wall leaving the drill bit in situ by releasing the hand drill. They would then attach the cable clamp ("B") to the drill bit ("D") and cable ("C") and then pull the cable through the hole using the drill bit ("A") in one easy motion.
Also, where the drill bit is not long enough to attach the cable clamp or does not have sufficient length to protrude through a wall, an extension piece is provided (fig. 3) that connects to the rear of the drill bit ("D"). The cable is then inserted into the end of the extension bar ("E") where a recess screw ("F") is tightened to secure the cable. The cable is then pulled through the wall in the same manner as before.

Claims (5)

  1. CLAIMS1. A drill bit with a threaded hole at the attachment end.
  2. 2. A drill bit cable clamp that screws into the threaded hole of the drill bit and at the other end clamps onto a cable enabling both to be pulled through the drilled hole in one easy action.
  3. 3. A drill bit extension piece that can also connect directly to the rear of the drill bit..
  4. 4. A drill bit extension piece threaded at one end and a hole drilled at the other end.
  5. 5. A drill bit extension piece with a smaller threaded hole at 90 degrees to the first and a screw to enable a cable to be clamped inside the hole.
