Abstract

The headset utilises acoustic tubes 8 to deliver quality from a source connected at the plug 11. The user benefits from less outside ambient noise interference due to the inner earbuds 6 allowing for lower and safer output volumes to be delivered from the speakers (7, fig 3). A breathe hole is (1 , fig 2) employed to improve the sound quality and balance the air pressure in the inner ear especially if used for altitude travel or exercise. The coiled construction 3 of the acoustic tubes absorbs movement thus keeping the earbuds 6 in position. The earbuds are graduated conical in shape to fit most ears. The over ear section 5 of the acoustic tube 8 can be cut to fit different ear sizes. The speaker housing 2 completely encapsulates the speaker driver to form a waterproof barrier. An optional microphone 14 may be added for use with mobile telephones for hands free communication.

FOR
STEREO WATER RESISTANT ACTIVITY HEADSET INVENTION
DEVELOPMENT BEGAN WHEN WE WERE ASKED TO CONSTRUCT A WEATHER RESISTANT HEADSET
FOR 2 WAY RADIOS FOR USE IN THE PITTING AREA AT LE MANS'. THE MECHANICS WERE USING
STANDARD HEADSETS ON VERY HIGH VOLUME LEVELS TO BE ABLE TO HEAR RADIO TRAFFIC
COMMUNICATION OVER THE BACKGROUND NOISE. THE HEADSETS WERE ALSO BULKY AND CUMBERSOME. WE DECIDED TO USE LIGHT WEIGHT ACOUSTIC TUBES WITH INNER EAR BUDS THAT
WOULD HELP TO REDUCE THE IMPACT OF THE RACE NOISE AND ALLOW THEM TO REDUCE THE
VOLUME ON THE RADIO SO NOT TO DAMAGE THE HEARING. THE PIT CREW UNFORTUNATELY
EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM OF A BUILD UP OF AIR PRESSURE BEHIND THE EAR BUDS AFTER LONG
PERIODS OF ACTIVE WEARING. WE CONTINUED TO TESTTHE NEW HEADSET USING AN MP3 MUSIC
PLAYER AND WE ALSO FOUND THAT THE REPRODUCTION OF MUSIC VIA THE ACOUSTIC TUBES WAS
POOR WITH LOW VOLUME AND A BAD MID RANGE FREQUENCY RESPONSE. STANDARD (NON ACOUSTIC TUBE) HEADSETS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE ON THE MARKET GENERALLY HAVE GOOD SOUND QUALITY BUT THEY CAN FALL OUT OF PLACE DURING ACTIVITY, BE AFFECTED BY WATER AND NOT FIT ALL EAR SHAPES AND SIZES. ALSO THEY HAVE TO BE PLAYED LOUDLY TO CUT OUT OTHER BACKGROUND NOISE AND CAN POTENTIALLY ANNOY OTHER PEOPLE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY.
BECAUSE OF THESE CHALLENGES, WE HAVE PRODUCED THE FOLLOWING PRODUCT WITH KEY FEATURES TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEMS CAUSED WHILST USING ANY HEADSET DURING ACTIVITY, SPORT AND AUDIO REPRODUCTION. I.. * * *q*. * S.... * S
