Abstract

An eye exerciser to exercise the eye muscles and ligaments comprises a mobile rotatable eye mask 3 with a light source (7, see figure 3) attached to the mask that shines through a fibre optic cable 4 into a viewing area 5. The inside surface of the eye mask 3 may have a matt finish. The back of the unit (8, see figure 3) may be made of hard plastic foam, and the eye mask 3 may be made of hard plastic. The unit is designed to be used as a mobile eye exercise module and can be foldable.

Description

TITLE-MOBILE EYE MUSCLE EXERCISING DEVICE
BACKGROUND-
This invention relates to a mobile eye exercise unit.
As humans grow older, their sight deteriorates and muscle that controls the eye becomes lazy.
Difficulty in focusing results in the image formed in the eye being in front of the retina (short-sightedness) or behind the retina (long-sightedness). Each point of the image blurs to a circle i.e. the blur circle. The greater the error in focusing, the larger the blur circle.
Conventionally an external compensating lens is used to bring the image into the plane of the retina to give clear vision. This practice encourages laziness in the eye muscles and commonly stronger and stronger lenses are required to maintain vision.
The ciliary muscle (1) is connected to the lens by zonules (ligaments). These change the shape of the lens -this is called accommodation. The muscle relaxes to flatten the lens for distance vision. For close work it contracts rounding out the lens. As we age, most people will develop an eye condition called presbyopia. The ciliary muscle, zonules and crystalline lens (2) lose their elasticity. This is why most people need reading glasses as they get older.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION-
To overcome the above, the present invention proposes a program of eye manipulation exercises using the mobile eye exercise unit to control the eye movement. This will strengthen the ciliary muscles (I) and tighten the zonules (9) that control the crystalline lens (2).
The unit ensures that the eye muscles are exercised in the correct position so that the eye muscles grow stronger and the zonules tighter.
Preferably, the mobile eye exerciser would have a small fibre optic cable protruding into the viewing aperture.
Preferably, the mobile eye exerciser would be light enough to be carried easily on one's person.
Preferably, the mobile eye exerciser could be folded to a size that would fit in a pocket or purse.
Preferably, the mobile eye exerciser would be wide enough to span the distance across both eyes.
INTRODUCTION TO DRAWINGS
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the following drawings- * Figure 1 shows the human eye, muscles, ligaments and lens effected by age degeneration; and * Figure 2 shows the front of the mobile eye exerciser according to the invention and sets out the various points and parts; and * Figure 3 shows the back of the mobile eye exerciser according to the invention and sets out various points and parts.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
A light source is attached to the Eye Mask (3) of a size that is suitable for the exercising of the eyes. The rear of the Eye Mask (3) is fitted with hard foam (8) into which a fibre optic cable is inserted (4). The ends of the fibre optic cable are visible on both sides of the foam.
The surrounding light shines through the rear end of the cable (7) and out of the other end (4) into the viewing aperture (5) as a spot of light. This light can be used to manipulate the eyes.
A DESCRIPTION OF HOW TO MAKE THE UNIT FOLLOWS-
1. A hard plastic Eye Mask (3) would be moulded. This is a simple push pull moulding process commonly use by the plastics industry.
2. A hard foam end piece (8) would be inserted into the back of the unit.
3. A fibre optic cable (4) would then be inserted into the foam far enough to protrude into the viewing aperture (5) and be visible on the rear (7) of the Eye Mask (3).
4. The light source (7) will shine into the viewing aperture (5) as a spot of light (4).
5. The viewing aperture (5) will be wide enough to span the distance across the human eyes.
6. The unit will be produced with the inside of the viewing aperture (5) having a mart finish.

Claims (8)

  1. CLIAMS1. A mobile eye exercising unit comprising of a light source for manipulating the eye muscle.
  2. 2. A mobile eye exerciser unit according to Claim 1, in which a light source can be supplied as a spot of light that shines into viewing aperture (5).
  3. 3. A mobile eye exerciser unit according to Claim 1, in which the viewing aperture (5) is of a matt surface reflecting very little light.
  4. 4. A mobile eye exerciser unit according to Claim 1, in which the unit is of a shape to accommodate both eyes of the user.
  5. 5. A mobile eye exerciser unit according to Claim 1, in which the Eye Mask (3) has a viewing aperture (5) so that the eyes can be aligned quickly and easily.
  6. 6. A mobile eye exerciser unit according to Claim 1, in which the Eye Mask (3) is of a size to allow restrictive light onto the eyes from an outside source.
  7. 7. A mobile eye exerciser unit according to Claim 1, in which the unit can be folded to a size to fit into a pocket or purse.
  8. 8. A mobile eye exerciser unit according to Claim 1, according to any of the preceding claims, in which the light source is supplied into the viewing aperture by means of a fibre optic cable.
