Abstract

A method for forming a shaped body containing at least one boron compound, includes the step of grinding the at least one boron compound to a particle size of between 100 and 250 mesh. A structuring agent is added at a rate of between 8 and 15% by weight of the resultant composition, which is thoroughly mixed, deposited into one or more moulds, and pressurised at between 180 and 200 kg/cm2at room temperature for up to 2 minutes. The boron compound may be selected from disodium octoborate tetrahydrate, disodium tetraborate decahydrate, disodium tetraborate pentahydrate, sodium metaborate tetrahydrate, boric acid or zinc borate. The structuring agent may be selected from calcium sulphate, calcium hemisulphate, calcium sulphate dehydrate or calcium carbonate. One or more fluoride containing compounds may be included. A method of treatment of a timber pole may comprise inserting shaped bodies formed according to the above method into holes extending above and below ground, and then sealing the holes.
