Abstract
A fastener operating handle includes a handle portion 3 and a body portion 1. The body portion 1 is connected to the handle portion by a rod 2. The body portion 1 may be a plate with a hole or a slot formed in it for engaging the fastener. The plate may be secured to a rod at one end, the rod extends back over the plate. Different sizes of hole and/or slot may be provided. Both hole(s) and slot may be provided in the plate. In use a hole of slot is used to engage a fastener such as a latch lever or bolt slider and to move the fastener.
Description
Fastener operating handle This invention relates to a handle for operating fasteners.
Fasteners are typically used outdoors. This means that they are subject to a variation in temperature round the year. The change in temperature causes expansion and contraction of the material that they are secured to as well as in themselves. This expansion and contraction often causes them to become stiff and hard to operate As time goes on, they can also rust causing difficulty of operation. Poor alignment between the fastener and the retainer into which the fastener is pushed can also have the same effects, including on indoor fasteners. They can also cause people to trap their fingers.
To overcome this, the present invention proposes a simple, robust handle, which, by manual operation, enables much easier and more comfortable operation of a fastener and without the possibility of trapping fingers.
Instead of having to hold the metal handle of the fastener itself, the operator holds a handle which may be rubber, at a distance from the existing fastener handle.
The operating handle can be used for almost any kind of fastener.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 shows a side, plan and end view of a fastener operating handle.
Figure 2 shows a side and plan view of a fastener operating handle, as it could operate a tower fastener.
Figure 3 shows a side and plan view of a fastener operating handle, as it could operate a brenton (lockable) fastener.
Figure 4 shows a side and plan view of a fastener operating handle, as it could operate a barrel fastener.
In Figure 1, a flat plate 1, which could be made of mild steel, has one or several holes, slots and a cutout, drilled through in order to give the operator the optimum-ability to use the handle depending on the nature of the fastener, how much space is available around the fastener and the best dynamic arrangement for the operation. The size and position of the holes and slots may be varied as may the breadth, length and thickness of the plate. The body is attached, possibly by welding, to a rod 2, which could also be made of mild steel and which bends back on the plate. Over the rod, a handle 3 which could be made of rubber, could be fastened possibly by adhesive.
Figure 2 shows how the handle could engage with and operate a tower bolt 4 using either of the two large holes.
Figure 3 shows how the handle could engage with and operate a brenton bolt S using the Cutout which could also be used for the operation of any other bolts if lack of space prevented any of the other holes or slots from being used.
Figure 4 shows how the handle could engage with and operate a barrel bolt 6, using either a hole or one of the slots on the leading edge of the plate.
