Abstract
A dual throwing stick for fishing comprises two lengths of hollow tubing 101 attached to one another along their length. The lengths of tubing each have one open end 102 and merge into a single tube 103 at their opposite ends. A handle 104 is located at the merged end. The lengths of tubing may be curved or straight, and are preferably formed of polyethylene terephthalate. In use, bait is loaded into both lengths of hollow tubing for simultaneous casting.
Description
Patent Application of Tony Robinson for A dual throwing stick for fishing
Background of the Invention
[1] The present invention relates to throwing sticks for casting bait when fishing.
[2] Often when fishing, anglers cast bait across the area in which they are fishing to attract fish to the area, making them easier to catch. Sometimes, if the area is nearby, this can be done by hand.
[3] Casting bait by hand is not always adequate, however, and inventions have been disclosed to aid the angler in casting bait. Catapults are widely used to cast bait, and most often comprise a pouch attached to stick by two elasticated bands. The angler places bait in the pouch, pulls the pouch backwards, stretching the elasticated bands, and then releases the pouch. The pouch is propelled forwards, throwing the bait forwards across the water.
[4] The range a catapult is capable of reaching, however, is not always great enough for anglers to use. Furthermore, because the path of the bait is not controlled, casting bait with a catapult can be very inaccurate.
[5] Throwing sticks have been developed as a more accurate alternative. Examples include US7225584 to Speidell, GB9727368 to Barringer and GB8621735 to Sansome. A throwing stick is a hollow length of tubing, open at one end and with a handle at the other. Bait is placed in the tubing, and the angler flicks the tubing, propelling the bait further across the water.
Because the trajectory of the bait is controlled whilst it is in the length of the tubing, using a throwing stick is much more accurate. This increased accuracy allows the angler to reach greater distances when casting bait.
[6] However, only very small amounts of bait can be cast with a throwing stick at one time, making the process time-consuming and inefficient.
Brief Summary of the Invention
[7] It can be seen by the forgoing that a need has arisen for a means of casting bait in a manner as accurate as that provided by a throwing stick, but more time-efficient. It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a device that achieves this.
[8] To this end, disclosed is a dual throwing stick for fishing, comprising: two lengths of hollow tubing attached to one another along their length, each with one open end and merging into one single tube at the opposite end; a handle at the merged end.
[9] The user loads bait into each length of hollow tubing, and then, gripping the handle, flicks the hollow tubing in the direction in which they wish to cast bait, launching the bait forwards.
[10] An advantage of the present invention is that it allows the user to cast double the amount of bait using one device, whilst retaining the necessary accuracy.
Brief Description of the Several Views of the Drawing [11] The invention can be better understood with reference to the following drawings, in which: [12] Figure one shows a top view of a preferred embodiment of the invention.
[13] Figure two shows a side view of a preferred embodiment of the invention.
Detailed Description of an Embodiment
[14] In a preferred embodiment of the invention, shown in Figures 1 and 2, where like numerals refer to like components, an dual throwing stick for fishing is disclosed, comprising: two lengths of hollow tubing 101 attached to one another along their length, each with one open end 102 and merging into one single tube 103 at the opposite end; a handle 104 at the merged end 103.
[15] The two lengths of hollow tubing 101 should be formed of a lightweight but strong, rigid material such that they are light enough to hold in one hand, but do not bend when the user flicks them outwards to cast the bait. This may be a plastic material, such as polyethylene terephthalate, or any other suitable material known in the art.
[16] The two lengths of hollow tubing 101 may be formed such that they are connected along their length. Alternatively, they may be formed separately and connected by any suitable means known in the art, for example, an adhesive.
[17] The two lengths of hollow tubing 101 are shown in the drawings as comprising a curve, to make the bait spin.
Alternatively, the two lengths of hollow tubing 101 may be straight.
[18] The two lengths of hollow tubing 101 have open ends 102. The openings may be approximately 20mm in diameter to receive bait, though alternatively the openings may be any other size as appropriate.
[19] The handle 104 is attached to the merged end 103 of the two lengths of hollow tubing 101, by any suitable means known in the art. The handle 104 should be made of a material suitable to provide grip in the hand, for example, rubber, or a soft sponge with a solid core. The handle 104 may comprise indents for the fingers for additional grip.
[20] The length of the throwing stick, from the open ends of the lengths of hollow tubing to the bottom of the handle, may be approximately 3 feet, giving enough length to cast the bait a long distance. However, the throwing stick may be provided at any length as appropriate.
