Abstract

An earth connection, suitable for agricultural or horticultural use, comprises a fixed head which is securely attached to the equipment to be earthed, and a removable head 6, 7, 8. The fixed head may comprise a self tapping drill 1 and a non-slip washer 2. The earth connection is a quick and easy device to install and use for both the electrical installer and end user of the electrical installation and allows compliance with the current edition of the IEE wiring regulations with respect to main protective and supplementary equipotential bonding of metalwork. It can be made out of various metals to suit different design applications and external influences, such as a damp farm environment. It allows easy un-skilled removal for movable metal partitions by a few turns of a flat bladed screwdriver, and allows easy re-connection. Plastic warning labels may be attached to both parts to give clear instructions to reconnect when metal partitions are again placed in position. It can also be used on static metalwork such as round bars, flat frames or structural steel.

Description

Description: -Agn Quick Earth
The Agri quick earth allows easy and practical compliance with the 1 7th edition of the tEE wiring regulations in commercial, industrial and especially in agricultural and horUculiia! electrical installations, where supplementary equipotential bonding is required to items of metal equipment such as pen partitions, gates and bars which may need to be electrically bonded together but are removable bY design, it is also useful in "bonding static metal items such as structural steelwork, and static pens and partitions.
The fixed head allows a permanent connection to static metal items and the removable head allows connection to movable or removable metal items as mentioned above.
The Agri quick earth could be made of steel for general use in commercial and industrial applications or be zinc plated (galvanised steel) for use in wet/damp environments on farms and horticultural installations so as to prevent dissimilar metals causing corrosion problems.
The fixed head is drilled and self tapped into metalwork using a cordless drill or a hole is drilled in the metal work and a fixed head with a threaded Bolt or screw is attached with a washer and nut (depending on the application), this fixed head can either be used on its own to facilitate permanent earthing connections or by placing onto it the removable connecting head it can be used to give a practical and electrically sound connection between two items which may at some time need to be moved away from each other and possibly put back together at some future date. The person moving such items has only to turn the locking stud a few turns with the use of a flat bladed screwdriver to allow disconnection.
If the cattle/sheep pens are movable then a fixed head could be secured at each end of the framework so that no matter how the pens were put together there was always a fixed head available to connect between using two connecting heads with either a galv strap or cable connecting the two together. Earth bonding is always a problem for electrical design engineers and site based electrical contractors when carrying out agricultural installations.
But it is very important to get the bonding right, and to still allow the flexibility for the farmer to alter his pens to suit his changing needs, and maintaining the same level of equipotential bonding.
The Agn quick earth allows this, and would be cost efficient. It is simple to install and would help electrical engineers and contractors to meet the current lEE wiring regulations.
Basic Installation Sequence 1. Put fixed head into position on material to be bonded 2. Screw self drilling/tapping screw, or bolt, if materials have been pre-drilled, and tighten, use additional holes in fixed head washer if one fixing is not enough to secure.
3. Locate removable connecting head onto fixed head 4. Tighten locking stud to fix removable head onto fixed head 5. Undo screw on connecting head 6. Cut galv strip (3Ox3mm mm), or cable with crimp holed lugs and drill a hole in the galv strip 7. Place onto removable connecting head and tighten screwlbolt.
