Abstract

A ventilation system of a toilet comprises a speed regulated electric fan 18 extracting odours from the toilet. The odours may be passed directly into the drain / soil pipe 'P'. The fan may be turned on when an inner toilet seat (10, fig 2) is down and activates a waterproof switch 16. Fan speed may be regulated by movement of a dial (22, fig 4). Tubing 20 connects the fan to the drain pipe. Air is extracted from a toilet at spaced intervals via a first 12a and second 12b extraction hose on an underside of the toilet seat. The fan may comprise a low voltage motor powered by electricity from a mains socket 'E'.

Description

TITLE: Toilet exhaust and extractor fan
Background
This invention relates to an exhaust and extractor fan.
Usually, ventilation from toilets are often inadequate and ineffective in combating the smells. Often, these smells are left to linger and permeate for a unwanted period of time. Air fresheners are normally used to combat these smells; however, they only combat the symptoms but not the root cause. These smells are not only a problem for the private household but also catering businesses whose toilets and restrooms are frequently used by the public.
Statement of invention
To overcome this, the present invention proposes an additional unit be added to the toilet in the form of an exhaust and extractor fan which is able to extract and channel the smells from the toilet directly to the drainpipe. The fan is powered by an electric motor.
Advantages The inclusion of the fan will ensure that any lingering smells are eliminated fast and leave the washroom clean and well ventilated. The fan is easily turned on when the inner toilet seat is down and vice versa.
Drawings An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawing: * Figure 1 shows a two dimensional model of the toilet system and where the fan is located as well as the flow of air as it is circulated by the fan when turned on.
* Two extracting tubes are attached under the toilet seat as illustrated in photograph 1 and 2.
* The tubes run through two holes in the toilet unit itself and connect to the fan as illustrated in photograph 3.
* The fan itself is an extractor fan and is located beneath the toilet unit as illustrated in photograph 4.
* It is covered by tubing and connected to the main drain pipe as illustrated in photograph 5, 6 and 7 * The fan is connected to a mains switch and there is a button to regulate the speed of the fan as illustrated in photograph 3.
* Once switched on, the fan will proceed to extract the air in the toilet bowl and channel it into the drainpipe as described by Figure 1. Claim

Claims (4)

  1. An air suction unit to improve and support the toilet ventilation system. The unit consists of a fan and tubing powered by an electric motor which is in turn connected and powered to a mains unit. The unit has a control unit which regulates the speed of the fan.Amendments to the Claims have been filed as follows Claims 1. A toilet pan air extraction system comprising a toilet seat(lO) attached by a hinge to a toilet pan/bowl and a first air extraction hose (12a) attached to a right underside portion of the toilet seat and a second air extraction hose (l2b) attached to a left underside portion of the toilet seat wherein a first end of the first and second extraction hoses are in fluid communication with the inlet of an air fan (18) powered by an electric motor; the air fan having an outlet to an external duct.
  2. 2. A system according to Claim 1 where air is extracted at spaced intervals along the first and second hoses (12a, 12b)
  3. 3. A system according to any preceding claim where the air fan motor is activated by a sensor (16) that detects when the toilet seat is resting on the toilet pan and is de-activated when the seat is raised.
  4. 4. A system according to any preceding claim further comprising means of varying the speed of rotation of * ** the air fan motor including a control knob (22) located on a side portion of the pan movement of * which changes the fan speed. *a*. * S S * SS SS*S
