Abstract

A display device 10 comprises a plurality of pivotally mounted display panels 12, which are hinged to a supporting structure 14. Adjustably mounted pockets 48 are mountable to either face of each display panel 12, for containing leaflets or other printed matter associated with a respective adjacent poster. The pockets are preferably mounted to a lower edge of the panel. In a particularly preferred arrangement each panel includes an upper member, a lower member and a spine member and a planar panel member disposed between these members, and the pocket is slidably mountable to the lower frame member by means of a projection on the pocket being received within a slot in the lower frame member.

Description

Title: Display Device The present invention relates to a display device and particularly, but not exclusively, to a display device for displaying posters and associated leaflets.
Background to the Invention
At present, posters are typically pinned to a notice board, retained in a frame or held to a wall or other surface with a tape, pins or releasable gum. Leaflets are typically displayed in leaflet holders, which are free standing or attached to a wall or the like and there is usually no correlation between posters and leaflets.
It is an object of the invention to provide a display device which reduces or substantially obviates the aforementioned problem.
Statement of Invention
According to present invention there is provided display device comprising a supporting structure, a plurality of display panels movably mounted to the supporting structure, and a plurality of pockets for holding leaflets, each pocket being mountable to either side of one of the display panels.
The invention is advantageous because a pocket for leaflets can be mounted to each display panel. n this way, a poster or other printed matter can be displayed and associated leaflets relating to the subject matter of the poster can be provided in the pocket for people to take away, as required. This is considered to be particularly useful for doctor's surgeries, hospitals and the like.
Each pocket may be adjustably mountable to a lower edge of each panel, on either side thereof This allows adjacent pockets mounted on facing display panels to be offset relative to one another.
The display panels may be hinged to the supporting structure. This allows each display panel to be separately viewed, in the manner of the pages of a book.
The supporting structure may include a rear member for attachment to a structure, and upper and lower members mounting the plurality of display panels.
The display panels may be hinged about pairs of substantially vertically disposed hinge pins mounted to the upper and lower members of the supporting structure. The hinge pins may be spaced along the supporting members.
Each display panel may include an upper frame member, a lower frame member and a spine member extending between the upper and lower frame members, and a planar panel member disposed between the upper and lower frame members and to one side of the spine member. Transparent cover sheets may be provided over the panel members for retaining printed matter, such as posters. Alternatively, printed matter may be attached to the panel members using a fastening means, such as tape, releasable gum or adhesive.
Each pocket may be slidably mountable to the lower frame member.
A keyway may be provided on each side of each lower frame member and a corresponding key may be provided on the rear of each pocket for attaching the or each pocket to one of the display panels.
Each keyway may be a dovetail or T-shaped slot.
Each pocket may include a base member, and at least front and rear members with a space between for receiving printed matter.
A cut-out may be provided in the front member of the pocket, which may be in the shape of an upwardly pointing arrow. This may indicate to someone viewing a poster and associated leaflets to take a leaflet by lifting it out of the top of the pocket.
Description of the Drawings
For a better understanding of the present invention, and to show more clearly how it may be carried into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows a schematic perspective view of a display device; Figure 2 shows a schematic exploded perspective view of the display device of Figure 1; Figure 3 shows a schematic perspective close up view of the lower end of th3 display device; and Figure 4 shows a schematic view of the display device of Figure 1, with the display panels spread open for viewing of works displayed on the panels.
Description of Preferred Embodiments
Referring firstly to Figures 1 and 2, a display device is indicated generally at 10. The display device 10 includes a plurality of display panels 12 mounted to a supporting structure 14. The supporting structure 14 is constructed as a C-shaped frame including a bracket 16 or fastening strip for attachment to a wall or other structure, a rear member 18 which mounts to the bracket 16, and upper and lower supporting members 20, 22, which are connected to the distal ends of the rear member 18 by means of connecting right angled brackets 24. The supporting structure 14 is ideally manufactured from pressed or extruded metal, and the upper and lower members 20, 22, rear member 18, and right angled brackets 24 may be designed as a push fit assembly.
Each display panel 12 is constructed from a lower frame member 26, an upper frame member 28 and a spine member 30. The frame members 26,28 and spine member 30 form a C-shaped frame, with a U-shaped channel extending around the inside of the frame. A planar panel member 32 can be inserted in the frame from the open side of the frame, opposite the spine member 30. The edges of the planar panel 32 are located in the circumferential channel or slot, best seen at 34 in Figure 3. The planar panel 32 may be provided with transparent cover sheets 35 on either side thereof, for capturing a poster or the like between the panel and the cover sheet. Tn order to insert a poster between the cover sheet 35 and panel 32, the cover sheet and panel can be pulled out of the circumferential channel 33, the poster placed between the panel member 32 and cover sheet 35, and then the assembly pushed back into the channel 33. It will be appreciated that the cover members 35 can be omitted, and posters attached to the planar panels 32 by usual means, such as tape and releasable adhesive.
Upper and lower hinge plates 36, 38 are attached to the upper and lower supporting members 20, 22 respectively of the supporting structure 14, and are provided with spaced apertures for receiving a plurality of hinge pins 40. The hinge pins 40 extend downwardly from the hinge plate 36 and upwardly from the hinge plate 38, and are in axial alignment with one another. Circular apertures provided in the upper and lower ends of the upper and lower frame members 26, 28 are located on the hinge pins 40 during assembly of the display device, thereby enabling rotation of each display panel 12 relative to the supporting structure 14.
A plurality of pockets 48 are adapted to attach to either side of any one of the display panels 12, and are slidingly mounted to the lower frame member 26. A keyway 42 is provided on both front and rear faces of the lower frame member 26 for receiving a corresponding key 44 of a pocket 46. Each pocket 48 includes a pocket base 50, and the key 44 is disposed along a rear edge of the base 50. Front and rear pocket walls 52 are attached to the sides of the base 50 to form each pocket 48. The rear wall 52 of the pocket is optional, because a pocket can effectively be formed between the front wall member 52 of the pocket and the surface of the planer panel 32. A cut out 54 in the shape of an upwardly directed arrow is provided through the pocket member 52, for indicating that a leaflet or other matter printed material may be removed from the pocket by lifting it in an upward direction.
Referring also to Figure 4, the pockets 48, when provided on adjacent panels 12 facing one another, can be moved along the base of the respective lower frame members 26, so that the pockets are in different positions. This means that when the panels are placed close to one another as indicated in Figure 1, then the pockets will not obstruct one another and the panels can be disposed in a substantially parallel relationship. n other words, the display panels 12 can be conveniently folded flat against the wall and do not project substantially further than the length of the hinge plates 36, 40 and upper and lower members 20, 22 of the supporting structure 14. For a six panel display, this may be no more than 180mm from the wall or other supporting structure.
The display device 10 enables a plurality of posters, for example 12 posters in the embodiment shown, to be displayed with pockets positioned in front of the posters for receiving associated leaflets or other flyers for self service distribution. The wall space required for mounting the posters is significantly less than that required if the posters were displayed side by side on a wall in conventional fashion, and the convenient location of the pockets 48 enables the associated printed matter to be placed as close as possible to the relevant poster. Although the display device 10 has been shown with six display panels 12, it will be appreciated that different numbers of display panels can be provided, as desired.
