Abstract
246,736. Nemec, J. Aug. 5, 1925. Inflammable fluids, cutting off in case of fire; sprinklers, automatic.-A device for cutting off a fuel-feed, particularly in vehicles or aircraft, is operated by the expansion of a metal tube 1 which is fixed at its upper end to a rod 2 having a lower coefficient of expansion. When the tube @ expands, a stirrup 2 on the rod 2 lifts a bar 4 to disengage a knob 4 thereon from a shoulder 6 on a plunger 6. When this occurs the plunger 6 is moved by a spring 8 so that its coned extension 9 engages a valve seat 14 to close the fuel passage. At the same time a needle 10 on the plunger 6 enters a recess 12 in the control cock 11. When the tube 1 has cooled rotation of the cock 11 forces the extension 9 back from the seating 14 so that the knob 4 again engages the shoulder 6. In a modification, for bringing a fire-extinguishing apparatus into operation, the valve arrangement is omitted and a rope is attached to the rear of the plunger 6, this rope passing to the apparatus to be operated.
