Abstract

"Quick Conduit" or "QC" for short is a pre-wired conduit circuit arrangement with pre-wired accessories all of which are fitted together with plugs & sockets. It offers a quicker, cleaner, easier and safer installation, which is easily extended and has many options of plug-in pre-wired accessories.

Description

Quick Conduit "Quick Conduit" or "QC" for short is a pre-wired conduit circuit, with pre-wired accessories, all of which are fitted together with plugs & sockets for quick and easy installation. The "QC" circuit is primarily a radial circuit designed for exterior use or for use within outbuildings where cables require mechanical protection to fulfil the electrical regulations. All fittings and accessories can be made to 1P66 for example, to offer full protection against water entry.
The "QC" circuit is easily extended, by simply plugging in another item. For example if at the end of the "QC" circuit there was a "QC" double socket, and more socket outlets were required, either another "QC" double socket could be plugged directly into the existing "QC" double socket or it could be extended to a new location by first plugging in a length of "QC" conduit, then the extra "QC" double socket could plug directly into the "QC" conduit socket. The items then just require fixing to the wall.
The ease of extending the "QC" circuit make it safe and easy for almost anyone to carry out, its no more difficult than fitting and securing a 4way extension lead to your sockets in your horne*.
A huge range of "QC" accessories can be made, to make the "QC" circuit even more beneficial over existing external/conduit circuits.
Benefits over existing conduit: My "Quick Conduit" offers: 1. Quicker installation -just plug in and secure to a wall.
2. Cleaner -no cutting or gluing.
3. Ease of installation -no wiring skills required.* 4. Easily extended -just plug in another item.
5. Safer -pre-wired and made to the correct IP and wiring ratings helping to eliminate unsafe practices.
*Electrical circuits should be tested by a qualified Electrician Plugs & Sockets: Sockets are always fitted on the supply side for safety reasons.
All plugs & sockets are conectly rated.
Pre-Wired Conduit: "QC" conduit is pre-wired with correctly rated cables.
"QC" conduit is pre-wired with correctly rated plugs & sockets.
"QC" conduit could come in various lengths.
"QC" conduit could be rigid or flexible.
Pre-Wired Accessories: All accessories are pre-wired and correctly rated.
FCU: A Fused Connection Unit (FCU) could plug directly into the main "QC" circuit but have a socket outlet for a lighting circuit. This lighting outlet can be at a lower rating to the main circuit with a lower rated conduit system that is protected and operated by the FCU.
The lighting "QC" circuit would have a different size or configuration of plugs & sockets to eliminate using the lighting conduit in the main circuit.
Conectly rated end caps can be fitted to unused plugs and sockets.
All accessories could have external mounting brackets pre fitted to eliminate the need to open the units.
Wiring the "QC" circuit: Initial supply to the "QC" circuit should be carried out by an experienced and qualified electrician, who could either install a correctly rated "QC" enclosure with a "QC" conduit socket outlet to start the "QC" circuit, wiring it to a RCD protected fuse board within the property or the electrician could install a correctly rated "QC" RCD unit which is supplied by the property fuse board but has its own RCD protection.
Left and right hand supply circuits: Accessories could either be sold as left and right supply units (i.e. position of plug & sockets on the accessories are swapped) OR You can turn the whole unit by 1800, loosen the front plate securing screws, rotate the front face plate around by 180° then secure front face plate back in position with screws.
Variations: Options for "QC" conduit and accessories are almost unlimited: "QC" conduit could have pre fitted brackets at regular intervals to ensure correct support, or could simply made to use separately sold standard conduit style saddles.
All pre-wired accessories could also be pre-fitted with externally mounted brackets eliminating the need for the accessories to be opened, again making extending safer and easier for all.
Various accessories could be made i.e. multi switched outlet boxes for pond supplies or large enclosures with 4way adapters inside for use with LV garden or Christmas lighting. Key:

Item 7 is a symbol for a pre-wired ROD, which plugs directly into the "QC" circuit. This is a left hand supply circuit indicated by the supply coming into the unit from the left and the socket outlet for the "QC" circuit on the right (see fig 4.).
Item 8 are securing screws.
Item 9 is a lighting socket outlet (see fig 3c.).
