Description

Patients Garment
Field of the invention
This invention relates to garments worn by patients whilst in a hospital, or in a doctors examinatiOn room.
Background to the Invention.
The traditional hospital garment design has not been modify in over fifty years and the resulting bodily exposure threatens dignity' it is totally out of sync with the demands of technological advancements in modem medicine, and deficient with the respect to its failure to provide a simple, efficient, and practical gown that not only affords the patient a high degree of personal privacy, but facilitates the requirements needed by the medical profession. The inadequate outdated one gown for all treatments needs to be addressed, and patients receiving treatments to specify areas of the body need to be catered for, to avoid unnecessary bodily exposure, which causes both physical and psychological discomfort and directly effects patients' dignity. The new design marries the constrains of medical efficiently and low cost to the preservation of human dignity.
Summary of the invention
It is the object of this invention to provide a low-cost patient's garment that function efficiently for its intended purpose, comfortable and adequately covers the patient's body.
It is also the object of this invention to provide a garment, which may donned or removed by the patient or doctor who wishes to examine certain portion of the patients body. This invention claims to be cost effective, medically efficient and promotes human dignity.
This invention is believed to be the only patients garment constructed from just two cut pieces of material, which makes this concept unique. The garment invention can accommodate functional pockets and flaps, which can be applied to specific areas of the garment (reference to diagrams sheets 4, 5, 6) for medical procedures. Making this garment invention cost effective and medically efficient. The new invention patient's garment is constructed without body and sleeve seams to minimise body abrasion and fluid stain-age, and covers the entire body. Designed to make it easier for medical examination, facilitating medical provision with apertures and access openings for wires monitors and tubes, through pockets, flaps, and panels. The front side opening allows the
I
garment to be removed from the patient without excessive discomfort or undignified removal. The easy side removal will reduce patient handling hence less contact with nurse's uniforms, which will reduce cross-contamination. Whilst this inventor is aware that there have been many patients garment designs developed which have addressed pockets for tubes and monitors the garments are still manufactured with shoulder seams, side seams and armhole seams, and are not cost effective. To my knowledge no patient garment as been produced, which as a seamless body invention made only from two pieces of fabric. The object of this invention is to provide a seamless garment which as features that will accommodate and secure monitors tubes in position so as to allow the patients to move about freely and completed covers the body.
Main features Gown concept design Concept design -description details -the foundation pattern block for the hospital garment is a seamless body pattern piece no shoulder, side seams or armhole seams just one small seam along the front chest diagram sheet 2, fig 4. this seam can be moved either way to accommodate design features. The garment consists of two pattern pieces only, and the garment can be produced at a shorter level for tops and as a full-length garment. The left sleeve opening, diagram Sheet 3, fig 6, allows the garment to completely open out for easy side removal from patients. Velcro, press-studs, or magnetic trim can be used for fastening. The design can be modify with the relevant apertures and openings to accommodate procedures and examining requirements for specific treatments. Garments will be adapted to suit the medical treatments required for the patients on the relevant wards.
Added Design Features-summary of features;
Pocket for -Heart monitors. -Diagram Sheet 6, figs, 15,16,17,18.
The sturdy see-through pockets allows medical staff to check devices at a glance. To facilitate heart patients -a pocket accommodates the heart monitor device with aperture at back of pocket giving direct access to chest.
Pocket for Catheter Bag. -Diagram Sheet 5, Fig 12, 13, 14.
See through pocket to allow medical profession to see fluids at a glance in the catheter bag pocket that accommodates the catheter bag and urethra tubing. Loops are attached to the garment to hold the tubes in place -aperture at back of pocket for front torso access.
Pocket for Post Mastectomy -J.P Drainage drip. -Diagram Sheet 4, Fig 7,10.
Pocket to accommodates drainage drip and facilitate tubing for drainage from breasts also as functional lift up and down panels front giving access to the breasts.
Mainmogram / Post mammogram Panels -Diagram Sheet 4, Fig 8.
Front garment panels added to front of garment the lift down panels facilitate medical examination and procedures. Can be closed by Velcro or press-studs fastenings.
