Abstract

A clothes peg made of two strips of synthetic moulded plastic 1, 2 held together by a metal tension plate 3 in the place of a spring, for tending the two strips 1, 2 to a closed position and ensure a sufficient permanent clamping force when the peg is in the closed position, clothes being held by rubber pads 5, 6. Additionally, the peg will be able to swivel horizontally as there will be a cylindrical bead 4 made of synthetic material connected to the strips of the peg by protruding tips on each side of the bead; the tips of the bead will slot into parallel holes on each strip 1, 2 which will ultimately allow for the peg to swivel whilst the bead remains still. A washing line is threaded through the bead 4 to attach the peg to the line.

Description

Clothing Pg
Description
At present, clothes or the like are hung on a washing line by pegs where the jaws go over the line. However, these types of pegs are weak and provide only slight clamping effect. Additionally these pegs are only able to grip garments or the like, that are already placed over the washing line.
The invention is a plastic clothes peg whereby a retractable or standard washing line can be permanently threaded through a clothes peg by a swivelling cylindrical bead built into the centre of the peg by two protruding tips on each side of the bead, thus the peg is held on to the washing line by the bead. The jaws of the peg will be able to hold garments or the like, without them being placed over the line so that the jaws of the peg work independently rather than having to be gripped on to the washing line.
The pegs can be manually spaced in accordance to the width of the garments that are to be held on the line. In addition to this, the peg will also be able to swivel on its axis horizontally as a result of the bead, as well as a full 360 degree movement vertically; the idea of this, is to allow a sideway grip on the garment which means heavier or large garments such as sheets may be positioned over the line, before being gripped by the peg.
The pegs are manufactured from a synthetic plastic where the jaws of the peg will be held together by a metal tension plate, which will act as a spring. The inner surface of the metal tension plate will comprise of ridged rubber surfaces that are intended to grip the garments or the like fmnly, whilst at the same time ensuring that the resistance does not damage the items being gripped.
Part 1 Moulded synthetic material to form main body of peg.
Part 2 Moulded synthetic material to form main body of peg.
Part 3 Metal tension plate fixed to part 1 and 2 to allow peg to return to closed position when the peg is not being pressed.
Part 4 Moulded synthetic cylindrical bead inserted into holes in part I and 2 using the protruding tips on either side of the bead; this will allow the peg to swivel when the washing line is threaded through peg.
Part 5 Ridged rubber pads fixed to part 3 to allow greater grip of clothing or the like.
Part 6 Ridged rubber pads fixed to part 3 to allow greater grip of clothing or the like.

Claims (5)

  1. Iclaim: 1) In a clothes peg, a bead built into the centre of the peg by two protruding tips placed on the left and right hand side allowing for the rest of the peg to swivel whilst the bead remains still; the bead will allow the clothes line to be permanently threaded through the peg. Approximately halfway up each strip of the peg, there will be small parallel holes to allow the bead which has protruding tips on the left and right hand side to be inserted into the peg. It is this that will allow for the strips of the peg to swivel whilst the clothes line remains threaded through the bead of the peg.
  2. 2) A clothes peg as claimed in 1 where the jaws of the peg will comprise of a metal tension plate so that when the peg is pressed, the metal tension plate will cause resistance to ensure a sufficient permanent clamping force.
  3. 3) A clothes peg as claimed in 1, where the strip and bead will be made from moulded synthetic material.
  4. 4) A clothes peg as claimed in 1 and 2, where the ends of the strips that will include the metal tension plate, comprise of ridged rubber surfaces.amendment to the claims have been made as follows Iclaim: 4 1) In a clothes peg, a bead built into the centre of the peg by two protruding tips placed on the left and right hand side allowing for the rest of the peg to swivel whilst the bead remains still; the bead will allow the clothes line to be permanently threaded through the peg. Approximately halfway up each strip of the peg, there will be small parallel holes to allow the bead which has protruding tips on the left and right hand side to be inserted into the peg. It is this that will allow for the strips of the peg to swivel whilst the clothes line remains threaded through the bead of the peg.2) A clothes peg as claimed in 1 where the jaws of the peg will comprise of a metal tension plate so that when the peg is pressed, the metal tension plate will cause resistance to ensure a sufficient permanent clamping force.3) A clothes peg as claimed in 1, where the strip and bead will be made from moulded synthetic material.4) A clothes peg as claimed in 1 and 2, where the ends of the strips that will include the metal tension plate, comprise of ridged rubber surfaces.
  5. 5) A clothes peg, as claimed in 1, 2, 3 and 4, which is permanently threaded through a clothes line.
