Abstract
A motor driven activator may be fitted to a standard hand-operated fire extinguisher A. A motor C is fitted in a box B which is attached to the extinguisher A by adjustable metal bands L. The motor is connected to a threaded bar P which passes through holes in each of the handles and secured to a bracket H by a nut K. In use, action of the motor C causes the drive shaft P to rotate anti clockwise. This draws down the top handle actuating the extinguisher and releasing the fire suppressant material through nozzle M. When the top handle reaches the bottom handle, a limit switch button N is activated cutting off the power to the motor. By the time the top handle reaches the bottom all the fire suppressant has been spent. This activator, allows manual hand operated units, to be used in a fixed application, domestic & commercial kitchen fire suppression, and in other fire risk situations.
Description
DE8CRIFTION: Auotmatic electrical powered activator for manual Fire exstinguisher.
The invention displayed on the drawing shows a standard hand operated fire exstinguiher, with the electrical activator fitted.
this device can be fitted to all sizes of exstinguishers as they are in common round tubular cyclinders, with a common disigned valve handle sqeeze grip operation.
The Fire suppression agent, can be Pouider,C02,Water,Foam,FE36 gaseous suppression, which are all common in the standard manual operated fire exstinguiher.
A brief example of a epplication,of a manual operated Fire exstinguihers of the powder type, fitted with the automatic active tor; In the british isles there are well over 1+000 incidents of cooking fires in domestic kitchens, not counting commercial kitchen fires.
The tackleing of these fire has caused many serious oil fire burns, to those who tried & in some cased even deaths, The Fire brigade advice, on useing a wet rung out towel has been now discontinued, and also useing a fire exsinguiher has been not advised, due to being to close with the exstinguisher the units pressure causeing the oil on fire to be spread to other parts of kitchen or worse on to the operator.
IN5TILLATI0N EXAMPLE DUMESTI KITCHEN: A standard kitchen in most cases, consists of a four or six burner hob, above a exstractor unit, and normal cuboard or cuboards each side.
The exstinguisher with the activator unit would be fitted in a adjacent cuboard, from the exstinguiher nozzel a suitable 6 mm compression connection would be fitted,P 6 mm tubing of copper or nylon, would come from the compression gland in the cuboard, through the side of the cuboard.Into the cooker hob area end about 60 mm below the exstractor unit A small plastic cap cover,in this area would protect the discharge tube from any ingress of cooking material, on activation of system, the exetinguisher pressure would open cap cover, and fire suppression powder/or other supression be released on to cooker fire.
The system would work on a 12 volt DC low volage, be activated a switch with safety cover, fitted in kitchen area,at exit door could have the eblity to switch off cooker if required, but would switch of exstractor,to stop spread of fire into ducting of house. This is only one EXAISJPLE of' use of system, there are others.
