Abstract

A portable, lightweight but robust audible continuity tester with fixed alligator clips (also known as crocodile clips). It is of simple construction, comprising minimal components and designed without a display screen, and rugged enough for toolbox storage. It is intended to be able to support its own weight when connected to enable hands free operation, and to have a sufficiently loud buzzer to be heard from a distance above background noise.

Description

TOOL BOX BUZZBOX
BACKGROUND / PROBLEM
All brands of other continuity testers I have found, do not have fixed alligator clips, some have push fit alligator clips, but if clipped to hanging cables the weight of the tester / meter will un-attach and the tester / meter would fall to the floor, therefore they have to be held in position.
Some meters do have an audible buzz facility, which are normally quite tow sound output level that is designed to be heard locally to the meter oniy.
Most meters are quite large in physical size, and come with a protective case or pouch; this makes them too lar2e I bulky to fit easily into a tool box.
Most meters have a display screen which is easily scratched or damaged if left in tool box with hand tools.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
The tool box buzzbox' is a robust (drglI2 A), loud audible continuity tester, fitted with fixed alligator clips (drgl/2 D), to the leads (drgl/2 C), once attached to cables in any position the clips will hold the weight of the tool box buzzbox' easily, making it hands free for the user to find /trace Ilocate the other ends of the cables knowing that when they find them and short them together they will hear the tool box buzzbox' audible sounder (drgl/2 B) from a far distance.
The tool box buzzbox' is made of robust materials designed flato need a protective cover or case and small enou2h to fit into your toolbox making it more accessible and user friendly.
ADVANTAGES
I) Strong alligator clips fitted making it hands free when required.
2) Loud high pitched sounder can be heard from a distance (dependent on background noise).
3) Robust casing no cover or pouch required.
4) No screen to scratch or crack.
5) Easily fits into toolbox.
6) All connections are soldered, no risk of vibration faults.
7) No moving parts to damage or wear out easily.
8) Powered by 9volt DC PP3 battery easily replaceable.
USES
1) Basic -testing continuity of fuses 2) Basic -testing filament iamps 3) Belling out cores of unmarked cables.
4) Fault finding -tracing cables.
5) Fault finding -tracing fire alarm cabling faults.
6) Fault finding -tracing ring main faults.
7) Fault finding -tracing looping system wiring.
8) Fault finding -finding / identifying broken cores.
OTHER VERSIONS
Other versions may include variations on sound output levels, as to enable the tool box buzzbox' to be used as a bench tool.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
All parts used to construct the tool box buzzbox', are readily available from a number of IlK suppliers, all of which have been passed and approved for use in the UK.
To make the tool box buzzbox', only a small number of hand tools are required and the addition of soldering iron, bench drill and heat gun are needed.
The working area needed is only small but would require ventilation due to soldering emissions.
The storage area needed for goods would depend on demand of product.
The tasks needed to construct the tool box buzzbox' are:- 1) measuring and marking 2) drilling (using bench drill) 3) Gluing parts together.
4) Stripping cables (hand tools).
5) Soldering cables (soldering iron / ventilation).
6) Fitting heat shrink (heat gun).
7) Basic wiring diagram (drg 2/2).
(All tasks do not require any long term training)
