Abstract

The idea of this invention is to prevent car thieves gaining access to a vehicle. The invention comprises a key which has a fingerprint scanner for verifying the identity of the user before the vehicle is started. The key may also be able to store vehicle information such as VIN and engine number on the key for added security. The key gives a benefit to the users, because it may display the next service due date, amount of fuel left, estimated mileage, total mileage etc. The premium version key will have the added feature of downloading mp3 files on the key to play through the vehicles sound system. The use of a Biometric fingerprint reader on the key secures access to vehicle from being used or accessed by unauthorised users. This invention gives peace of mind to car owners and adds value by offering extra services e.g. vehicle info stored and viewable on the key.

Description

Description
Secure Vehicle Key and Vehicle Information The Key is an invention for vehicles. The key requires the use of a finger print to start up the cars engine. The chosen name for the product is "Finger Print Key Start". The Key will help increase security of vehicles, because a finger print that's registered on the Car key is required to start up the engine. It is able to do this by interacting when plugged into the car dashboard where a key would usually fit. The vehicle VIN and engine number will also be stored on the key.
This device will interact with the car when slotted into the key slot in the vehicle. The registered fingerprint on the key will be required to start the vehicle and access its functions. For each driver samples of several fingerprints will be scanned, to ensure reliability of the system and for unexpected reasons if a finger could not be scanned for any particular reason.
LCD/OLED screen:-this will be used to display text and graphics in colour. However if given the option to use OLED, this will consume less battery power and require less width of the device to fit the screen.
Battery Indicator:-this stays green when charged and in operation, and changes to red when battery level is low. The battery indicator switches off completely and access to the screenlmenu switch off to save battery power when there is approximately 20% of battery remaining. This is for security reasons to maintain enough battery charge on the key to unlock the doors to gain access to the car. Therefore taking this into consideration means there will be no problems accessing the vehicle when the battery is low, as it will go to power save mode until it's charged again.
Biometric Fingerprint Scanner:-this feature is used to start up the cars engine and use its features, to register the owner's finger prints and adding additional drivers on the Key. NOTE: car can be unlocked without fingerprint but the engine can't be started without the fingerprint.
Menu functions/Settings:-this system function will allow access to the menu, the function under menu are as follows:-Disable Print: this will enable disabling the fingerprint to gain access to the vehicle, this function can be considered when the car is given to the garage for a service.
Under this function you will also have the choice to disable or enable finger print access when you lock, unlock the door/boot.
Add driver: this function will let the key add other peoples finger prints that have the permission to drive the car from the owner. The owner's finger print will have to be scanned first to add a new driver.
Change owner: this function will only be used when the owner of the vehicle has changed. The previous owners' finger print will need to be scanned followed by the new owners finger print to verify change of ownership.
Vehicle Info: this function will allow access to the vehicle yIN, engine number, date of first registration, number of previous owners etc. Display: this function will allow the user to select what information to display on the home screen of the key, such as next service due, amount of fuel left alongside estimated miles remaining, total mileage etc. MP3: (Premium Version Only) delete tracks, view tracks and download/upload tracks when plugged into a computer using the USB link.
Navigation Keys:-these are used to navigate through the menu on the key.
Lock Door:-this is a basic feature to lock the door. A fingerprint will not be required for this function if chosen under settings.
Unlock Door:-this is a basic feature to unlock the door. A fingerprint will not be required for this function if chosen under settings.
Unlock Boot:-this is a basic feature to unlock the boot. A fingerprint will not be required for this function if chosen under settings.
OK/Cancel:-these two buttons will be used for system functions on the menu to accept or decline a setting or function for e.g. register finger print, add driver, view vehicle info etc. Back:-this button will go back to the previous menu/home screen.
Built in Memory:-there will be an embed memory on the key as it's more secure to have the memory built into the Key. The built in memory will be used to store vehicle information such as ViN, engine number, finger prints etc. (Premium version will have additional memory to store MP3 files) Logo:-vehicle manufacturer logo can be placed here.
Battery Cover:-this wilt have small screws fixed to secure battery in place for security/safety.
Battery:-The battery witl be rechargeable and can be replaced if performance of the battery is affected in the future through its operations within the device.
+ -: -these are two metallic pins which when inserted into the key slot, enables the key to be charged. The other pins between +/-are used for exchanging data and interacting with the vehicle.
MP3 Function:-(Premium Version Only) this function allows mp3 files to be stored on the key which later can be played through the car audio system. This is possible when inserted into the key slot and the use of "MP3" button. This will then allow the key to interact with the car audio system to play mp3 through the vehicles audio system.
NOTE:-I want the idea of having an MP3 to be patented on any vehicle keys available to date.
USB Link:-(Premium Version Only) the USB link enables connection with a computer to transfer and upload mp3 files. It also charges the key when plugged into the computer or USB socket.
The benefit of this invention is to help increase security against car thieves, as it makes it more difficult to start the vehicle. it's also a unique idea that allows the key to display vehicle information, such as when the next service is due, total mileage on car, how many litres of fuel left/estimated miles etc. Tt's an invention to give customers peace of mind and a unique experience with their vehicle. The premium version offers customers more benefits as it is a convenient storage for mp3 files.
The drawings that have been included will show and demonstrate the idea of the Vehicle Key. The drawings will help understand the invention and how the product may look when manufactured.
The drawings will also show where each function and feature has been placed on the device. This will enable to understand the idea of the product and will help exchange description against the drawings to gather a picture of how it's put together to work in such way.

Claims (8)

  1. Claims Fingerprint scanner will add security to the car as a finger print will be required to start up the engine.Disable Print: this will require disabling the fingerprint to gain access to the vehicle, this option may be considered when the car is given to the garage for a service.Add driver: this function will let the key add other peoples finger prints that have the permission to drive the car from the owner. To add a new driver the owner's finger print will have to be scanned first to add a new driver.Change owner: this function will only be used when the owner of the vehicle has changed. The previous owners' finger print will need to be scanned followed by the new owners finger print to verify change of ownership.Vehicle Info: this function will allow access to the vehicle V1N, engine number, date of first registration, number of previous owners, service history etc. Display: this function will allow the user to select what information to display on the home screen of the key, such as next service due, amount of fuel left alongside estimated miles remaining, total mileage etc. MP3 function (Premium Version Only) this allows downloading mp3 files on the vehicles key and later playing it through the vehicles Audio system.Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows Claims 1.
