Abstract
A retractable elasticated handle for use with a sports board 104. The sports board comprises a platform upon which a person stands to perform manoeuvres, while the handle comprises an elasticated cord 101 which is mounted within a housing 108 attached to, or formed in the sports board and which terminates in a tag 109 which serves as a handle. The handle may be stretched out from the housing to support the user while performing a manoeuvre and is then retracted back within the housing once the handle is released. The cord may be attached to the housing by means of mounting grommets 102, provided at each end of the housing, while movement of the cord may be controlled by means of revolving spindles 107.
Description
ELASTIC CORD FOR SPORTS BOARDS
The present invention relates to sports boards. For the purposes of the present application, sports boards are elongated platforms upon individuals stand and perform varying activities of a sporting and gymnastic nature and include the devices known as surf boards, skateboards, mountain boards, freeboards and snowboards.
This mvention is to improve safety as the user is not permanantly attached to the sports board in the event of a fall. Also to enable new manouvres in the sporting world of board sports for beginners and advanced users. To be referred to as the neg-g-air cord.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved tether/cord for use with the sports boards.
According to the present invention there is provided a tether/elastic cord for use with a sports board as hereinbefore defined, comprising of a length of elastic cord of a durable and strong kind, of which either end is fastened to inlaid grommets of which there a four in number set out in a straight line, mounted in the sports board. The given length of elastic cord passes throo the 2 middle gromniets and is fastened at either end. The user of the sports board stands unatatched above the cord and grommets. The point between the 2 middle grommets is where the user grips and pulls *.SS upwardsformingahandle. * * * * *
The elastic cord may pass under a rotateable sleeve in the grommet to prolong the life * of the cord. * * * * ** ** * * * * * **
A handle of a soft material could be fitted over the cord to give a more comfortable grip.
The invention will now be described by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawing which is a cross section of the embodyment of the invention.
Referring to the drawings the invention consists of an elastic cord 101 attached to the inlaid deck grommets 102 at either end of the cord 101. The elastic cord passes under slight tension under the deck grommets with revolving spindles 107 also inset to the sports board. The fashioned dip or slot 105 in the sports board 104 enables the user (person) to gain a hold on the elastic cord 101 which in turn tensions the elastic cord 101 enableing an airborne manoeuvre with the sports board, held in position, under the users feet. When the elastic cord is released from grip the elastic returns and lays in a shaped rebait/groove in the surface enabling the sports board to be used in the is conventional manner. The cord 101 may be of elastic-or a modern equivalent e.g. polypropelene/silicone.
This invention would be mounted to a sports board to suit the use e.g. Top mounted or underside mounted.
The present invention enables a relatively unskilled user of a sports board to perform aerial manouvres and facilitates the learning of new and indeed advanced aerial S* manouvres by a person who is already skilled in the use of sports boards e.g. Being * towed at speed-loop the loop-and extreme carving manonuvres. Claims (6)
- CLAIMS1. Elastic cord for use with a sports board as hereinbefore defined, comprising of 4 grommets with elastic cord passing throo the 2 mid grommets and attached at either end to the end grommets, of which the cord can be pulled upwards from the centre forming a handle to be used to perform manouvres. When the cord is released it will lay flush with the surface.
- 2. The elastic cord according to claim 1 forms its own handle when pulled upwards whilst passing under 2 centre grommet spindles.
- 3. The grommets x 4 and elastic cord according to claim land 2 are set in the platform of a sports board.
- 4. A sports board as hereinbefore defmed including a tether/elastic cord according to any preeceding claims.
- 5. A tether/elastic cord for use with a sports board is hereinbefore defined substantially as hereinbefore described and with reference to the accompanying drawings.
- 6. NOTE Grommets can be set in the sports board to suit users height or madeadjustable. oI I...I* *.*.* * * * I,.. * I * * *I I. * S. * d *I S. *-* 0.
