Abstract

A folding shopping trolley bag comprises a bag 1, wheels 8, handle 9 and a folding base panel 3 attached to the inner lining of the bag by means of a hinge 4. A hook and loop fastening mechanism enables the base panel to attach to the inner base of the bag and provide structural integrity there to. With the base panel folded up, the trolley bag may be folded flat for storage and easy transport.

Description

Folding Shopping Trolley Bag This invention relates to a mechanism that allows a shopping trolley bag to fold flat.
Traditional shopping trolley bags tend to be large and cumbersome, making them impractical for storage and also for carrying when empty. To overcome this, the present invention proposes a trolley bag that can be folded flat for carrying to shops when empty and for ease of storage after use.
The trolley bag is able to fold flat by proposed means of an internal hinged base. By folding flat, the trolley bag can be stored easily and carried practically whilst empty.
U.S. Pat. No. 2008135365 cites a luggage case whereby the bottom support is an external feature of the bag and uses a coupling member for the folding mechanism and to provide structural integrity. The present invention proposes an internal and integrated solution.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 shows a folding trolley bag in its original state.
Figure 2 shows a vertical section of the folding trolley bag.
Figure 3 shows a trolley bag in its flat state according to the invention.
In figure 1, the folding trolley bag is made of a flexible material 1. An inflexible back panel 2 is stitched in to the inner lining of the bag. An inflexible folding base panel 3 is attached to the inner lining of the bag by means of a stitched hinge 4. A strip of hooks 5, forming part of a hook and loop fastening mechanism, is attached on the underside of the folding base panel. A strip of loops 6, forming the second part of the hook and loop fastening mechanism, is attached to the inner base of the bag. The trolley legs 7 are a molded construction consisting of two stumps and a crossbar, and affix to the inflexible bag by means of a rigid strip plate 14 and two rivets.
The strip of loops 6 are housed directly upon the rigid strip plate 14. The rigid strip plate is integral to the present invention as the component provides the inflexible bag structural integrity in a standing upright position when the hook and loop mechanism is engaged.
The trolley wheels B are attached to the rear base of the bag by means of a rigid strip plate 13 and two rivets. The telescopic handle 9 and trolley wheels are attached and are a singular component. The telescopic handle is attached to the back of the inflexible back panel with rivets. The bag opens and closes by zip mechanism 10. Flexible handles are placed at the top of the bag 11 and side of the bag 12.
The folding base panel is manually operated, with access gained through the top when the bag is unzipped. When the folding base panel is folded down, the loop and hooks attach enabling the bag to stand upright and rigid. When the folding base panel is folded upwards, the bag can be folded flat by means of crimping the inflexible bag material inwardly.
When folded flat, the top of the bag handle 11 can be used to carry the bag like a general carry bag. When folded flat, the side of the bag handle 12 can be used to carry the bag akin to an attaché case.

Claims (5)

  1. Claims 1. A folding shopping trolley bag comprising a folding base panel attached to the inner lining of the bag by means of a hinge.
  2. 2. A folding shopping trolley bag according to claim 1, in which the folding base panel attaches to the inner base of the bag by means of a hook and ioop fastening mechanism.
  3. 3. A folding shopping trolley bag according to claim 2, in which the folding base panel attached to the inner base of the bag provides the bag with structural integrity in a standing upright position.
  4. 4. A folding shopping trolley bag according to claim 1, in which the folding base panel detached from the inner base of the bag and folded upwards enables the inflexible bag to fold flat.
  5. 5. A folding shopping trolley bag according to claim 4 and when the inflexible bag is folded flat in which the inflexible handle on the side of the bag can be used to carry the bag akin to an attaché case.
