Abstract

A building block comprises randomly compacted tyres encased in concrete. The tyres are first compacted into a solid bundle and then surrounded with steel reinforcing mesh. This bundle of tyres is then placed into a concrete mould which is filled with concrete permanently enclosing the bale of tyres from the environment and providing an aesthetically pleasing finish. The blocks may then be used in the construction of storage bays, by placing them end to end with the next course overlapping the joints of the lower course, to form a sturdy and movable bay or a series of bays. The finished concrete block will incorporate two cavities to facilitate the placing and movement of the blocks. Also there will be four smaller indentations in the base of each block and also corresponding protrusions on the top of each block to facilitate the positioning of each subsequent course of blocks.

Description

Method of using end if life tyres in a sustainable environmentally friendly fashion A concrete building block as shown in figure 1 enclosing the maximum amount of randomly compacted tyres as shown in figure 2. The tyres are first compacted into a solid bundle and surrounded with steel reinforcing mesh. This bundle of tyres is then placed into a specially designed mould as shown in figure 3. This mould is then filled with wet concrete surrounding the bale of tyres, permanently enclosing the said tyres from the environment with an aesthetically pleasing finish. These blocks may then be used in the construction of storage bays by placing them end to end, and the next course overlapping the joints of the lower course, to form a sturdy and movable bay, or a series of bays as required figure 4.
The finished concrete block will incorporate two cavities figure 5 to facilitate the placing of said blocks. In addition to these two large cavities there will be four smaller indentations in the base of each block, and also corresponding protrusions on the top of each block, to allow for the positioning of each subsequent course of block as the need arises figures 6 & 7.
