Abstract
An exhaust system of a motor vehicle comprising two replaceable carbon filters to each retain only 1% of the carbon from the total exhaust gas flow. The filter is replaced every 1609 km (1000 miles). A filter retaining all the carbon emissions would result in a substantial additional weight of carbon being transported by the vehicle, however a filter retaining only a small portion of the carbon produced would be of an acceptable weight if replaced on a regular basis. Also disclosed is the use of such filters in an exhaust system also having a bypass pipe and a spring loaded pressure relief valve to divert the exhaust flow around the filter if the filter becomes blocked.
Description
I
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
An exhaust system of a motor vehicle comprising two replaceable carbon filter cartridges, each retaining 1% of the carbon from the exhaust gas flow, wherein each cartridge is replaced every 1,000 miles (1609km).
Everyone interested in this subject is fully aware of the danger that Carbon has on humanity.
In this document I will prove how I have reduced the carbon threat that has puzzled the scientific minds of today. To begin my explanation.
The problem is the fact that for every gallon of petrol fully burned, lbs (9 kg) of carbon waste is produced.
This of course is what it is all about as far as the as the combustion engine is concerned. The weight of carbon is such that it is unrealistic to retain it completely.
In taking a different approach I have solved the problem.
One has to move gently towards this carbon devastation and like all things, the first move has tobe made.
As you can see by the drawing the twin exhaust system is used.
My invention begins at this point. In both exhaust pipes I have incorporated two Carbon Filter Cartridges in their containers and as a unit is firmly attached to the vehicle body.
The quantity of carbon retained or captured in the cartridges will be achieved and balanced by the layers of material within.
This decides the amount of carbon retained and is made to define my end product.
The cartridges will absorb only the amount of carbon that is desired by my invention and that is 1%. When I explain fully you will realise that 1% is lOibs (4.5 kg)of carbon. The other 99% will flow on as it would do anyway.
This is all worked out to a decimal point and will become more clear as I go on. The invention is based on a car covering 1,000 miles (1609)km.
I have been informed by a world famous car firm that a 1.4 motor car on a straight run will do 42. lmiles(67.6 km) per gallon. Urban not much less.
I have worked out my sums for a car doing 40 mpg (651cm).
Having been in touch with some scientists they have informed me and as I have previously stated, each gallon of petrol burned completely will leave a residue of 20lbs (9 kg) of carbon.
A car which does 40mpg (65 km)will require 25 gallons (114 litres)of petrol to travel 1,000 miles.
As I have stated I am retaining 1% of the carbon emission making it's way through the two filters which is actually 2% of the total emission passing through on a 1,000 mile(1609 km) distance.
The cartridges will be renewed every 1,000 miles (1609km) this operation would be done very quickly. I have still some explaining to do however. Allow me to do this equation before I go on. 20 20
1 xlOO =4 51bs (2.26kg) of carbon in each filter5x2lOlbs.( 4.52kg).
It follows then that if a car does 10,000 miles (16090) km a year and the Cartridges are changed every 1,000 miles (1609) km the situation will be, lbs( 4.5kg) 10= lOOlbs (45 kg) of carbon not going into the atmosphere.
The secret is collecting the carbon every 1,000 miles, (1 609)km as it could not be left to 10,000 miles (16090)km as we are all aware.
The magic of this invention is this and I will now make you aware of it and you will understand the 1%. If we assume that 1,000,000 vehicles could collect 100 lbs of carbon emission in the UK,every year, by the simple equation of 1% ,this would amount to over 40 thousand tons of carbon prevented from reaching the atmosphere. Of course it is much more than this.
You will have observed by the drawing the two extra exhaust pipes.
You will also have noticed that I have incorporated two pressure spring loaded release valves at the entrance to the by-pass exhaust pipes.
The manufacturer has informed me that the pressure release valve is set by them and cannot be altered and he has assured me that the release valves are perfectly safe. The release pressure valves would only be in operation if the Cartridges were really choked, The driver would be notified automatically when the release valves opened.
If he took no notice that the release valves were in operation, * the total carbon emission would then be back in the atmosphere until the cartridges were replaced.
