Abstract

A hand held plastic guard, which enables the safe application of motorcycle chain oil or grease without an excess being sprayed on the ground, bodywork, or most importantly tyres. The guard comprises a substantially flat guard and a gutter, allowing grease or oil to be applied to the motorcycle chain with any excess being retained in the gutter system. One end of the guttering system may be closed, and the other open. This means any excess oil or grease can be drained away safely. The guard is easily cleaned, and can be carried with the rider on longer journeys or tours.

Description

Oil Off guard This invention relates to a device for protecting motorcycle bodywork and tyres from motorcycle chain grease and oil.
When individuals are applying grease or oil to their motorcycle chain it is a very dirty job.
The process involves spraying or applying the grease or oil to the chain whilst the rear wheel of the motorcycle is off the ground.
Each individual link of the chain has to be sprayed and this process has to be repeated every 500 miles or after cleaning the motorcycle.
The main problem in carrying out this essential maintenance is how much mess is created by the oil or grease.
Because of the location of motorcycle chains the grease or oil will go everywhere, covering both bodywork and parts of the rear tyre.
This comes down to a safety issue as the motorcycle chain grease in particular is extremely sticky, and once on the tyre can cause it to be very slippery and cause the tyre to lose grip, something that could be deadly for motorcyclists.
To overcome this, the present invention proposes a 10 x 6-inch plastic solid frame which involves the individual placing the Oil Off guard between the tyre and the chain, ensuring nothing leaks over the motorcycle bodywork or tyres, allowing for routine safe maintenance. The Oil off guard has a small gutter on the base to catch or retain the oil or grease, the guttering on the base has been designed in such a way that the oil or grease will not escape, as one side of the guttering is closed. The other side of the guttering is open, allowing the oil or grease to be disposed of easily.
Because the Oil Off guard is made from plastic it is very easily cleaned and because of the Oil Off guard's size it is compatible with nearly all motorcycles too.
The invention will now be described by a number of drawings, and each example being referenced as: Figure 1. The main picture of the Oil off guard itself with the adjoining parts figure 2 and 3.
Figure 2. Figure 2 shows the simple guttering system that has no mechanics or hinges, it simply has a rounded edge to allow oil or grease to be easily disposed of.
Figure 3. Shows the closed edge, which is attached to figure 1 and 2.

Claims (6)

  1. Claims 1. A plastic guard, which is hand held and has a guttering system to allow oil of grease to be caught inside.
  2. 2. As in claim 1, a plastic, hand held guard with a guttering system, which Is easily cleaned and very light in design.
  3. 3. As in claim 2, a guttering system with a closed end to allowing oil or grease to be easily applied to a motorcycle without, any oil or grease coating bodywork or tyres.
  4. 4 As in claim 3, a closed end guttering system which enables the oil or grease to be disposed of easily.
  5. 5. Because of the size of the guard, it is compatible with all chain driven motorcycles.
  6. 6. As in claim 5, because of the size of the guard it can be carried around with the rider easily for long journeys.
