Abstract
246,158. Westinghouse Electric Manufacturing Co., (Assignees of Little, D. G.). Jan. 16, 1925, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Inductances applicable to radio apparatus comprise a single layer of consecutive convolutions of conductor pleated like a bellows in the axial direction to increase the spacing between adjacent turns. The former has corrugations extending perpendicularly to its axis and may comprise a cylinder 1, Fig. 1, provided externally with longitudinal insulating strips 2 with external serrated edges about which the conductor 3 is wound. To receive the conductors 3, each serration has a concave top 15, Fig. 4, and inclined side-steps 16 of a width slightly greater than the diameter of the conductor 3. To form a variometer, a second coil 8, Fig. 3, is mounted on a transverse rotatable shaft 4 journaled in the cylinder 1 and is similarly wound about serrated strips 7 on a cylinder 6 secured by brackets 5 to the shaft 4, the serrations now having an unequal number of steps on adjacent sides and the serrated edges of the strip lying on an arc of a circle as shown. Leads to the inner coil are passed through the hollow shaft 4, about the shaft as at 11 and are connected to the inner ends 12 of two coils 3 on the cylinder 1, the outer ends of the coils 3 being connected to terminals 14.
