Abstract

246,106. Renault, L. Jan. 19, 1925, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Supervising central station plant.-Apparatus for permitting a centrally-located person to listen. in to the running of several distant machines, comprises a helmet containing a receiver which may be connected by switching means either individually to any one or simultaneously to all of a number of acoustic or electrical sound transmatting means extending from each machine to be supervised. The invention is described with reference to the supervision by a. pilot of a number of engines on an aircraft. During flight the receiver is connected to all the sound transmission means and the pilot hears a blending of the sounds of all the engines. If a defect occurs in one of them, an abnormal element presents itself in this complex sound and the pilot may identify the faulty engine by individually switching his receiver on to the different engines. The arrangement is also applicable to supervising the working of turbines and other machines at an electricsupply station.
