Abstract

A door catch mounting bracket unit 1, includes attachment means by holes "a" and "b" for attaching this unit to a flush cupboard door frame, a right angled protruding surface "P" to give rigidity and a tight fix holding the door catch exactly in position, and holes "c" and "d" to attach a door catch body. A magnetic catch is shown but the bracket can mount other catch forms.

Description

Door catch mounting bracket This invention relates to a device for attaching door catches.

Normally cupboard door catches are attached to the frame or lining that is situated behind the cupboard door. However on many older style cupboards and antique furniture the door is seated flush to the outer frame. This makes it hard to fit a modern catch, such as a magnetic door catch, or other types, as often the frame is not deep enough to accommodate a catch resulting in a wooden bar having to be attached behind the framework to fix the modern catch. This requires joinery skills, additional tools, and is time consuming.

This invention makes it simple to mount a catch behind the framework without any joinery skills, or additional tools, saves time, and provides a neat solution.

Figure 1 shows the mounting bracket, Figure 2 shows the mounting bracket ho'ding a magnetic door catch in position, Figure 3 shows the mounting bracket with a different type of door catch.

In figure 1, the mounting bracket is shown. It is made from light strong metal. The lazer cut right angled protrusion "P" gives the bracket rigidity by butting up to the rear of the door frame, and angles the catch perfectly. A self adhesive strip could also be added to this so that it stays in place while screwing in the two retaining screws into (countersunk) holes "a" and "b". Holes "c" and "d" are for the attachment of the door catch, in this instance a magnetic door catch. The bracket may have more than two holes, if it were to be a "universal" bracket, or just come in different sizes to accommodate the different types of readily available catches. The adjustability of the door catch alignment is provided on the slip holes on the catch.

Figure 2 shows the mounting bracket holding a magnetic door catch in position, attached to the cupboard door frame, with mounting screws in holes "a" and "b" and attached to the magnetic door catch with screws through holes "c" and "d".

Figure 3 shows a further embodiment in a tutch-latch or pressure catch is used instead. This bracket can be used with most modern catches.

Claims

Claims 1. A mounting bracket comprising attachment means for attaching door catches to flush door frames.
2. A mounting bracket according to claim 1, in which commercially available door catches can be mounted.
3. A mounting bracket according to claim 1, in which a user with no joinery skills or tools other than a screwdriver can attach a door catch that could not otherwise have been attached
4. A mounting bracket according to claim 1, in which the design of the right angled protrusion "P" gives the bracket rigidity so holding the door catch exactly in position to receive the striker plate or other closing devise.
