Abstract

A paint roller tray having large paint-holding capacity, permitting a paint roller to be fully loaded with paint by rotating on the bottom surface, the roller's rotation assisted by evenly spaced ridges, and a a grid-like half lid with evenly spaced holes and ridges allow the paint roller to rotate back and forth on top of the grid, expelling excess paint back in to the tray, thus preventing an over-loaded roller from dripping paint on leaving the tray, and ensuring the application of paint can be applied evenly. The grid preferably has a slot part lengthwise to permit translation of the roller thereunder.

Description

Paint Tray The present invention relates to a painting apparatus, particularly, but not exclusively to a painting apparatus, permitting a paint roller to be fully loaded, and is primarily designed to accommodate a double-beaded roller, Registered Design number 4004665, although a single roller can also be used.

Paint roller trays conventionally have a portion for holding paint, and a ribbed portion for rolling a loaded roller on, to evenly distribute the paint, and to remove excess paint. These paint trays have drawbacks in that they are unbalanced when they are held, because they are heavy at one end. Additionally, they can only hold a small amount of paint, and it can be difficult to make a loaded roller revolve in the paint section. According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a painting apparatus comprising, A container adapted to hold paint, and A sheet member to sit on the container as would a lid.

Preferably the sheet member has upturned edges on two sides and one end.

Preferably the sheet member has a groove underneath one end.

Preferably, the sheet member is perforated.

Preferably, the sheet member is perforated by evenly spaced holes.

Preferably, the holes have concave sides assist in paint draining from the sheet member into the container.

Preferably, the sheet member is ridged.

Preferably, the ridges are parallel. Parallel ridges assist in turning the roller heads.

Most preferably, an upper surface of the sheet member is ridged.

Preferably, the sheet member has a centrally situated slot.

In one embodiment, the paint container, with a ridged surface to assist the rollers rotating, has a large paint holding capacity, thus reducing the need to continually re-fill. In this embodiment, the sheet member is a flat rectangular sheet with upturned edges, perforated by evenly spaced square holes with concave sides, and the surface of evenly spaced convex ridges between the holes, across the breadth of the sheet.

The sheet member has an underside groove at one end which sits on the container, and prevents movement when the rollers are being rolled back and forth on the sheet member.

The sheet member has a slot centrally positioned to accommodate the handle stem of the rollers, thus allowing the rollers back and forth movement underneath the sheet member in order to load with paint.

Once the rollers are sufficiently loaded with paint, the rollers are then withdrawn from the container and rolled back and forth on the surface of the sheet member, allowing excess paint to return to the container.
