Abstract

A martial arts training aid may be affixed to a conventional punch or boxing bag j. Said aid may comprise a pair of simulated arms and legs and may be affixed via an upper adjustable strap f corresponding to a shoulder height and a lower fixing g corresponding to a waist area. A further locking member i is provided. Shoulder joints e may be provided adjacent to the punch bag allowing pivoting of the arms. Rotational movement of the arms may be controlled via joints d which may be made from rubber and act to provide torsional resistance in the event that the joint is rotated. Simulated b wrist and elbow joints c are provided. Although not shown on the drawings, simulated legs may also be fitted. The training aid may be made in various sizes to allow use by adults or children. When the punch bag is struck the reactive force will cause the arms and legs of the aid to move. The aid may be dismantled and stored in a bag. In a further embodiment when in use if the device is struck then lights or buzzers will operate.

Description

Free moving Jujitsu & Sparring training_aid This invention is to give a better quality of training when using a punch bag.
When using a punch bag a common complaint' is that although developing power c!t timing etc nothing is actually hitting you back. So as well as being fairly tedious it does not reflect a real fight scenario.
With my invention I aim to make bag training more exciting and add a more realistic dimension by means of an artificial sparring partner or Spartner'. When fixed to a moving punch bag the momentum of the bag movement makes the Spartner's' arms swing in an unpredictable manner offering the trainee an attack to avoid, simulating realistic Sparring.
An example of my invention will now be described by referring to an accompanying drawing.
Figure a. shows rubber grip hand representing fist for punching and also to hold training weapons or grip trainees clothing to mimic grip escapes.
Figure b. shows how tube locates into hand and is bolted at pivot point of real wrist.
Figure c. shows simple bolt together elbow joint which only allows one way bend.
Figure d. shows upper arm slotting over shoulder tube with torsion rubber running through connecting both tubes with lock nuts, allowing controlled twist and the option to pull tube free/dislocate upper arm from shoulder for even freer swing' or 10 mimic lower body holds from the Spartner'.
Figure e. shows two pronged attachment part of the shoulder tube slotting over and under tapered body shoulder tube and fixed with locking nuts allowing to easily swing left and right tightly to bag due to tapered ends.
Figure f. shows adjustable strap running through both body shoulder tubes pulled tight securing Spartner' to bag.
Figure g. shows secondary adjustable support strap running belt loop style, through body plate, preventing twist.
Figure h. shows Spartner' with full padding.
Figure i. shows adjustable locking strap and toothed fastener.
Figure j. punch bag.
The Spartner' will easily attach (and detach) to any size punch bag, hanging or free standing, preferably with two adjustable ratchet straps I c & which hold it securely in place.
The first strap (I) holds both sides onto the bag being thread through both tubes representing shoulders and tightened at the back of the bag.
The second supporting strap (&) stops the Spartner' from twisting by holding further down the body plate in a belt loop fashion and again tightening at the back of the bag.
The Spartner' is preferably a metal or very strong plastic simplified replica of the shoulder, elbow and wrist joints. Made as separate tubed pieces the Spartner' easily bolts together preferably with locking round head nuts (for safety -no sharp edges). For safety the whole piece is preferably padded (H) with a a. foam fixed tubing plus pads b. removable veicroed foam sections which stick together to form a complete shield or padding c. protective coating sprayed or painted directly onto Spartner' as a permanent Second Skin' There is also a rubber torsion mechanism in the shoulder joint (b) which allows it to be twisted and pulled out to swing more freely but also is strong enough to stabilise the arm in any position so that Jujitsu locks and throws can also be practised either separately from a still free standing position or together with movement and striking. The male tube section of shoulder joint (b) has two fixed arms which slot over and under shoulder tube (E) (body plate section) and is again held with locking bolts allowing the whole arm to swing horizontally.
The elbow (C) works as one way bending free moving joint again fixed with locking safety nuts.
The hand (A) and wrist (B) are moulded with a strong rubber or foam in a grip/fist position so a training weapon can be held by the Spartner'. (The rubber also provides more protection if you do get hit!) This is fixed to the forearm preferably with the tube or forearm locating straight into the back of the wrist (B) and bolted from side to side to simulate the joint and allow similar movement to the wrist.
The Spartner' will preferably be made in three sizes, child, small adult, large adult, giving the option to use two sets together on same bag, so one represents legs. All Spartners' will preferably be provided with instructions how to dislocate arms to weigh down to simulate legs.
Version 2 of the Spartner' will be the same with the addition of precisely positioned switches which when touched will a. sound a buzzer b. turn on a light showing the correct striking of pressure points.
The 5partner' will fold up and preferably be provided in a canvas, Velcro or drawstring tent style bag for ease of carriage and storage. It will be strongly recommended to use all relevant forms of safety equipment -MMA gloves, head guard etc, and that dressing the Spartner' in traditional Gi will not only make for a more realistic training scenario but will also offer yet more protection to the trainee'

Claims (8)

  1. Claims 1. A training aid which will attach to any punch bag to simulate arms and legs.
  2. 2. A training aid which will come in three sizes with a child size, small adult and large adult size providing an option to use two different sizes to represent arms and legs.
  3. 3. A training aid which swings and moves with the momentum of the punch bag to give the trainee more awareness of accessible targets when faced with arms and legs on punch bag and objects (arms and legs) to avoid and defend against when training.
  4. 4. A training aid which by use of torsion rubber and slot fit tubes in shoulder allows trainee to position and twist arms however they like to attack, lock, throw or defend Spartner'.
  5. 5. A training aid which by use of torsion rubber and slot fit tubes allows trainee to dislocate arm from shoulder tube so it hangs down side of punch bag and swings more easily.
  6. 6. A training aid which is held and adjusted on any punch bag using ratchet straps which run through body shoulder tube and body plate in belt loop style.
  7. 7. A training aid which has rubber grip hands to mimic clenched fist and be used to hold training weapons and grip trainees clothing by grip form or with Velcro attachment.
  8. 8. A training aid which can be easily attached, removed and put into Velcro or drawstring canvas carry sack for ease of storage and carriage.
