Description
I
PROJECTOR AND MEANS FOR SECURE MOUNTING THEREOF
This invention relates to a projector unit of the type that is conventionally fixedly mounted. In particular, the invention provides a projector of novel design which can be more securely and more easily mounted.
Conventionally, projectors are embodied in substantially rectangular box like cases. These cases are mounted using an adjustable frame which can be adjusted to clamp around surfaces of the projector case. The frame is then secured to an immovable building structure such as a ceiling mounted pole, a wall, column or the like. Examples of such mounting devices are described in the Applicant's earlier patent applications numbered GB 0508533.7 and GB 0619789.1. Broadly these applications a clamp which comprises three tubes which slide over each other, and the strategic placing of Vernier holes inserted in each tube, enables the clamp to be fixed tightly onto different sizes of equipment. A cable lock passes through one or more holes in the clamp to tether the clamped device to a fixed. Different sized square and rectangular arms are proposed to accommodate devices of different depths to ensure they too are gripped tightly. This adjustability makes the device universal, fitting most sizes of digital projector and a number of other devices. * **
The present Invention seeks to provide a means for securely fixing a projector which is highly secure but involves less components and less ** effort to ensure secure mounting of the projector. * ***
In accordance with the present invention there Is provided a projector and mount assembly, the projector embodied in a case, the functional components of the projector being arranged around a space within the case and the case including a walled aperture passing through the space, the mount comprising a pole having a first and second end, a platform extending radially from the first end, the platform being of greater dimensions than the cross section of the walled aperture and securing means for the securing the pole to an immovable object at the second end.
The aperture is desirably positioned centrally or at the centre of gravity of the projector to permit the projector to be mounted stably. The aperture may be of any desired shape but most conveniently is substantially round or square. Desirably the dimensions and cross sectional shape of the pole is substantially similar to those of the aperture allowing a comfortable sliding fit of the pole into the aperture. The platform may be of any shape but desirably does not extend significantly beyond the outer perimeter of the mounted projector case. Optionally, a cushioning layer is provided on the face of the platform which faces the projector case, this provides better stability for the mounted projector and protection against physical damage. The platform may be integrally formed with or separable from the pole.
The securing means at the second end of the pole may comprise a screw thread. The screw threaded end may, optionally, be adapted to be securely screw fastened to a universal joint which is in turn adapted to be bolted or otherwise securely fixed to a ceiling mounted pole. Alternatively, * the securing means may simple comprise one or more apertures through which bolts, tethers or other mechanical securing devices may be fastened. The assembly may be wall, ceiling or pole mountable.
Desirably, the assembly further includes a stabilising plate which includes an aperture suitably proportioned to receive the second end of the pole.
* In use the projector is positioned onto the pole to abut against the S....
* platform and the stabilising plate added onto the pole so as to sandwich the projector between the platform and the stabilising plate. Optionally, the stabilising plate is provided with a cushioned layer on the face of the plate which faces the projector case. Desirably the stabilising plate includes a collar which can be secured against the outer surface of the pole.
Optionally, the assembly further includes an anti-cutting ring which, in use, surrounds the pole preventing it being easily cut when the assembly is properly secured.
Optionally, the assembly may further include one or more securing hoops fastened or otherwise fixedly secured to the projector case and a lockable anchor configured to fit through the securIng hoops to prevent against theft of the assembly. Without limitation, the anchor may comprise a metal cable and padlock which locks around an end of the cable after it has been threaded through the security hoops. The other end of the cable can be permanently fixed to a building structure.
An embodiment of the invention will now be further described with reference to the following figures in which; Figure 1 shows a cross section through an embodiment of an assembly in accordance with the invention. * **

ceiling pole. *S..
Figure 3 shows a view from below of the embodiment of Figure 1 attached * to a ceiling pole. ** * .
* Figure 4 shows a detailed cross sectional view of securing hoops included *.*e * in an assembly in accordance with the invention Figure 5 shows the embodiment of Figure 4 with an anchor secured through the security hoops.
As can be seen from Figure 1, a projector 1 incorporates a walled aperture 2 passing through its centre. A mounting pole 3 comprising a steel tube is threaded first through a platform plate 4 and then through the aperture 2.
A stop 3a prevents the platform plate 4 from slipping off the pole 3. A cushioned layer 4a is provided on an upper surface of the platform plate which faces the projector 1. A stabilising plate 5, with cushioned layer 5a, is threaded onto the pole sandwiching the projector between the stabilising plate 5 and the platform plate 4. The stabilising plate 4 includes through which grub screws 6 are fastened to tightly fix the stabilising plate 5 In position.
An anti-cutting ring 7 is threaded over the collar of the stabilising plate 5.
The distal end of pole 3 is coupled to a universal joint 8 which permits the mounted assembly to be repositioned at various angular tilts or rotational positions. The universal joint is mounted in a cup 9 and secured to a ceiling mounted pole 11 by grub screws 10.
As can be seen from Figure 2 a mounted assembly is further secured to ceiling 12 by means of a plurality of bosses 13, 14 a cable 15, cable padlock 16 and cable padlock 17. The bosses comprise two pole mounted * ** bosses 13 and 2 bolt on bosses 14 bolted to an upper surface of the case of the projector 1. S...
As can be seen from Figure 3, a projector 1 is suspended from a ceiling by means of a ceiling mounted pole 11, the assembly being coupled to the :. pole by means of cup 9. Platform plate 4 and stop 3a are visible from beneath the mounted projector. As can be seen the mounting assembly does not interfere with or obstruct the control panel la or projection lamp lb of the projector 1.
As can be seen from Figure 4, in one embodiment of the assembly, a stability plate 5 is fastened inside the casing of the projector 1 around walled aperture 2 wherein the wall of the aperture 2 comprises a metal tube which is removably positionable between upper and lower parts of the casing of the projector 1. Two cable bosses 14 are bolted on to the projector casing by means of bolts 14a. When assembled, a cable can be threaded to the cable bosses 14 and anchored to the ceiling as illustrated in Figure 2.
Figure 5 shows in more detail a cable 15 shackled to a projector 1, containing a walled aperture 2. The cable is shackled by means of bolted on bosses 14 and secured by means of cable 16. * ** ** * * ** I... * * *** S. * . * *.. ** * S
