Abstract
A pipe chamfer for plastic pipes consisting a shaped metal or plastic cup 1 with abrasive 2 on the inside rim. This is attached to a drill 4 using an arbour or pin 3. The unit placed over the pipe and rotated, making the chamber. The abrasive coat 2 may be continuous along the inside of the cup or it may be in the form of pads. The arbour 3 may be permanently fixed to the cup or alternatively it is separable.
Description
PIPE CHAMFER
Througout the building industry, when pipes have to be joined, a bevel or chamfer must be filed on the end of each pipe to enable them to be slipped into a coupling. This invention enables this to be done and is aimed mainly at 100mm diameter plastic above and below ground drainage.
At present, this is done manually using a rough file or rasp. This is both time consuming and tiring. This invention allows this to be done mechanically by inserting the invention into a drill, and introducing the pipe end into the unit while it is rotating.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying sketch (page 4).
The unit (Fig 1) is manufactured from pressed steel or plastic to form a cup shape with sides or rim of the desired angle to form the chamfer. An abrasive (2) is coated on the inside of the unit, either continually or in separate pads. A detatchable arbour (3) is inserted into the centre hole in the unit (1) and tightened. The unit can now be fixed into a drill (4). The drill rotates the unit which is then placed over the pipe end, (5) and the chamfer made.
Fig 6 shows an alternative with the arbour permanently fixed to the unit.

- Claims 1. A pipe chamfer in the form of an angled abrasive cup.
- 2. A pipe chamfer according to Claim 1 which is fitted with a separate arbour.
- 3. A pipe chamfer according to Claim 1 which is operated by mechanical means.
