Abstract

A case 10 comprises a first portion 12, generally a base, including a handle 14, and a second portion 16, generally a lid, arranged to mate with the first portion 12, the second portion 16 including a recess 18. The position of the recess 18 on the second portion 16 is arranged so as to match the position of the handle 14 on the first portion 12. The recess 18 does not include a handle. The case 10 is of an elongate form and is arranged to store a gun.

DESCRIPTION
A GUN CASE
S This invention relates to a case, and particularly to gun cases.
It is well known to use cases for carrying objects of one sort or another.
For example suitcases are used for carrying clothes and the like when individuals are travelling away from their home for one or more days. Similarly, io briefcases are used to carry papers and other items by people when travelling to work or to meetings away from their normal place of work. There are also more specific types of cases that are used in specialist fields. For example, musical instruments typically have specifically designed cases that fit the shape of the specific instrument for the purpose of transporting the instrument, and protecting that instrument during transportation. Scientific instruments also often have cases that are designed specifically for the instruments in question.
Likewise guns such as shotguns can be provided with specially designed cases that are elongate in form and allow for storage of the weapon and also other related items such as cartridges. Generally a gun case is provided with a base and a lid, each of which includes a handle. When the case is closed, the two handles meet to form a single handle.
It is therefore an object of the invention to improve upon the known art.
According to a first aspect of the present invention, there is provided a case comprising a first portion, the first portion including a handle, and a second portion arranged to mate with the first portion, the second portion including a recess, the position of the recess on the second portion matching the position of the handle on the first portion, wherein the recess does not include a handle.
Owing to the invention, it is possible to provide a case, which may be a gun case that only has a handle on one of the base or the lid. This provides a case that is easy to manufacture and easy to use. The design of the handle provides improved product strength, improved integrity of product and a reduced risk of failure.
Embodiments of the present invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a closed gun case, Figure 2 is a perspective view of the gun case, of Figure 1, in an open configuration, and Figure 3 is a perspective partial view of the handle region of the gun io case.
Figure 1 shows the gun case 10, in a closed configuration, which comprises a first portion 12, the first portion 12 including a handle 14, and a second portion 16 arranged to mate with the first portion 12. The second portion 16 includes a recess 18, the position of the recess 18 on the second portion 16 matching the position of the handle 14 on the first portion 12. The recess 18 does not include a handle. The case 10 is of an elongate form and is arranged to store a gun. The first portion 12 comprises the base of the gun case 10, and the second portion 16 comprises the lid of the gun case 10.
The gun case 10 is shown in an open configuration in Figure 2. The case 10 includes hinges 20, each hinge 20 connecting the first portion 12 to the second portion 14. The recess 18 on the second portion (the lid) 16 can be seen clearly in the Figure. The first portion 12 also includes a recess 22 (shown in Figure 3), the handle 14 being within the said recess 22. The recess 18 on the second portion 16 and the recess 22 on the first portion 12 are substantially the same size. These two recesses 18 and 22 are equal and opposite and meet when the case 10 is closed. Figure 3 shows in close-up the recess 22 within the base 12 that contains the handle 14. In this embodiment the handle 14 is hollow.

Claims (7)

1. A case (10) comprising: * a first portion (12), the first portion (12) including a handle (14), and * a second portion (16) arranged to mate with the first portion (12), the second portion (16) including a recess (18), the position of the recess (18) on the second portion (16) matching the position of the handle (14) on the first portion (12), io wherein the recess (18) does not include a handle.
2. A case according to claim 1, wherein the first portion (12) comprises a base and the second portion (14) comprises a lid.
3. A case according to claim 1 or 2, and further comprising one or more hinges (20), the or each hinge (20) connecting the first portion (12) to the second portion (14).
4. A case according to claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein the case (10) is of an elongate form and is arranged to store a gun.
5. A case according to any preceding claim, wherein the first portion (12) includes a recess (22), the handle (14) being within the said recess (22).
6. A case according to claim 5, wherein the recess (18) on the second portion (16), and the recess (22) on the first portion (12) are substantially the same size.
7. A case substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
