Abstract

A digging implement, such as a spade or fork, with a shaped attachment linking the blade or fork to the shaft/handle, where the attachment is curved in a similar manner to a swan's neck that allows the user to apply foot pressure centrally over the blade or fork. Preferably the angle between the blade or fork and the shaft/handle is 25 degrees. Preferably the fork has five prongs.

Description
Conventionally designed spades and forks all follow a similar method of construction allowing the user to exert a downward force by use of their foot to the left or right of the shaft of the implement pushing down on the left or right hand side of the blade. This force allows enough pressure for the implement to cut through the soil. Normal digging implements are usually slightly angled at the point where the shaft meets the blade, to facilitate lifting the earth out of the created hole.
The present invention is constructed in a different way, allowing the user to exert pressure with his foot above the centre of the blade. This has been achieved by designing a swan neck shaped link between the shaft and the blade. The user can easily slide either foot onto the very centre of the top of the blade of the implement with the top section of the swan neck bending just above his foot. The upper section of the swan neck is formed like a sleeve into which the shaft is securely fixed and the lower section is attached to the centre of the blade.
The height measurement for this implement can be varied according to the height of the person using it.

Claims (3)

  1. Patent Claims 1. Digging implement charactensed by a swan neck shaped attachment linking the blade to the shaft, allowing the foot pressure to be applied centrally over the blade.
  2. 2. Digging implement according to claim 1 characterised by an angle of 25 degrees between the blade and the shaft.
  3. 3. Digging implement according to claim 1 characterised by the fact, that the blade may be formed as a five pronged fork.
