Abstract

A hairpiece attachment system comprises two parts, a lower base which attaches to the user's residual hair 12B, and an upper base which carries the artificial hair and which fastens to the lower base with double sided adhesive tape G. The lower base has holes or slits through which the user's hair 12B is drawn. This hair is then stuck to the adhesive tape G which edges the base. The hair piece or toupee which forms the upper base is then stuck to the lower base by means of the adhesive tape. An alternate embodiment shows the lower base as a series of flaps fastened to the underside of the hairpiece. These flaps have holes through which the user's hair is drawn and which is secured by folding the flaps and sticking it to the underside of the hairpiece, thus trapping the hair and securing the wig.

Description

1 2456655 PATENT APPLICATION FOR VANISHING POINT (Known as VP in this description
DESCRIPTION
The PROBLEM is to affix a hairpiece to the top of a head which already has growing hair which is thinning, without being able to feel the fixing points and joins If a head is smooth bald it is a simple matter to use double sided tape or medical adhesive to the underneath of the hairpiece in contact with the smooth bald scalp.
Affixing a hairpiece Onto existing growing hair is much more difficult to disguise the joins.
Existing methods are:- 1. Pulling a few strands of growing hair through the hairpiece base and applying glue on the upper surface of the hairpiece producing rough or lumpy joins 2. Using metal tubes through which growing hair and hairpiece hair are threaded and the metal tubes compressed to grip the join. Which feels rough and uncomfortable..
3. A further method is to sew on metal clips which grip the growing hair. Whch feels lumpy and unnatural, All these 3 x methods feel lumpy and uncomfortable and unnatural when the hair is combed or the fingers run though it..
The INVENTION VP VP consists of a parallel to the scalp shaped hairpiece made from polyurethane or silicone or monofilament or other suitable material,
HAIR IS IMPLANTED OR KNOTTED INTO THIS MATERIAL REPRESENTING
GROWING I-LAIR.
SEVERAL FLAPS OF A SIMILAR MATERIAL ARE FIXED TO THE UNDERNEATH
PERIMETER OF VP in a hinge like fashion. S Each flap has a slot cut into it, Growing hair is pulled through the various slots and stuck to the underneath of VP The flaps are then closed and pressed to the under surface of VP so completely concealing the joins in a sandwich like fashion.
The joins cannot be seen nor can they be felt when combed.
Figure 1 is a planned view of the top surface of the initial underbase reference A of a two based hairpiece the top base ref. i of which has real hair or artificial hair and is attached by knotting or looping by hand or by machine arid represents natural growing hair.
The base A maybe be oval or round or some similar shape and made from a polyurethane material or monofilament or net or silk or nylon or other suitable material into which a series of holes ref B or slits, approximately 1mm to 5mm diameter positioned around and through the base A at various points.
The middle section ref C of the base ref A is an area of monofilament or net or silk or nylon or other material that will allow the passage of air or water through it.
Figure 2 -A2 is a cross section of figure 1 and is a curved shape, ref A2 approximately similar to the top of a human skull and between 3cm and 22cm from front to back, and between 3cm and 18cm from side to side.. The thickness of the cross section may be between 1mm and 10mm deep.
Figure 3 shows an elevation of figure 1 and presents an approximate facsimile of the general shape of figure 1 from a side view and contains a series of strips of double sided adhesive tape with a paper liner backing on both surfaces ref DGF with holes ref B that are synchronized with holes ref E in the base ref A and when synchronized may be referred to as E/B or B/E.
Figure 4 is a tilted elevated view of figure 1 taken from under the base and to one side showing the undersurface ref A3 beneath base A. Figure 5. This drawing shows a plan of the undersurface A3 of figure 1 base A. Double sided adhesive tape is attached to its upper surface and for clarity is shown as if visible through the base.
The double sided adhesive tape is overlapping the perimeter of the base A with the holes in double sided adhesive tape ref E synchronized and in line with the holes ref B in the base A. Figure 6 is a plan of the upper surface of figure 1 base A with the overlapping double sided adhesive tape ref 02 trimmed back to the perimeter edge of the base A. Furthermore the double sided adhesive tape has been trimmed away from the middle section C of the base A. Ref E represents holes on the double sided adhesive tape and are in line and synchronized with reference B. B/E and! or E/8 are the holes of the base A in combination with the holes in the double sided adhesive tape.
Figure 7 is a plan of the double sided adhesive tape which is of medical grade and may be between Y2 cm and 3cm wide. Ref D is the paper liner protecting the adhesive surface on the double sided adheive tape.
Figure 8. Ref F is the paper liner protecting the opposing adhesive surface of the double sided adhesive tape. Ref G is the double sided adhesive tape with two adhesive surfaces which is sandwiched between D and F until the adhesive is revealed by removing D or F. Figure 8 is an elevation of the double sided adhesive tape with D and F intact.
Figure 9 is the elevation of the double sided adhesive tape and shows the paper liner F being removed from G. Figure 10 is the elevation of the double sided adhesive tape and reveals one of the adhesive surfaces of G with F removed.
Figure 11 shows the paper liner ref F having been removed from G. Figure 12 is a tilted side elevation view of the base A, showing small strands ref 12B of the recipient's hair which have been pulled through some of the holes E/B with an implement or hook, at the same time pushing the base A down onto the scalp with the undersurface A3 in contact with the scalp's curvature. Ref H is the perimeter hair, which is donor hair and is attached to the sides and back perimeter of the base A (see ref. Figure 16), Figure 12C is the remaining existing hair of the recipient which is not operated upon.
Figure 13 shows the double sided adhesive tape having had 12B pulled through E/B and is pressed down onto G the adhesive surface of the double sided adhesive tape.... having previously removed the paper liner.
Figure 16 is a plan of the upper surface of base A with ref. H he donor perimeter hair which has been attached to the base at the sides and back of base A. G is the adhesive surface of the double sided adhesive tape. C is the middle section of base A which has no double sided adhesive tape.
Figure 17 shows the lining paper B being removed from G. Figure 19 shows a plan of the second base known as the main base J, which is made of polyurethane or other material and is a similar size and shape to the initial base A. Main base J is covered with hair or fibre H2 to represent natural growing hair. The middle section K is a similar shape to middle section C in the initial base A..and is air and water permeable.
Figure 19B is a plan of the main base containing hair HZ or fibre representing natural growing hair.
Figure 19C shows the second base main base J which contains hair H2 or fibre all over its top surface and represents natural growing hair. The second base (main base i) is preferably slightly larger n area than the initial base A but maybe the same size and shape as the initial base A. Base J has been pressed down onto the initial base A matching its contours or slightly overlapping its contours and shape. The donor hair H2, which is attached to base J, is now brushed into the recipient's hair 12C and trimmed and styled to blend with it having ensured that the colour of H2 is similar to 12C producing the most natural looking affect or of a different colour for a dramatic alternate effect.
