PAINT CONTAINER
Field of the Invention
This invention relates to paint containers.
Background to the Invention
The problem with current lidded metal or plastic tins or pots as paint containers is that these containers can easily break or split in transit and the contents are spilled out. This makes it difficult to provide any sort of paint delivery service to the consumer, whether a small business or a domestic establishment.
Statements of the Invention
According to the present invention there is provided a paint container in the form of a flexible bag formed from a plastics material, said container having a closable opening and said plastics material being such that the container will withstand drop impact and 15 body weight pressure.
A container in accordance with the present invention may have two sides which are connected together along their respective opposed edges.
20 The container may have a pair of handles at least at one end which handles may be pulled apart to separate the two sides.
The container may have two pairs of handles, one pair at each of two opposed ends.
•**t*.25 The container may have a nozzle at one end which nozzle may be provided with a valve which prevents paint from oozing out of the container.
The nozzle may be movable relative to the rest of the container, from a position in which it is tucked into an end of the container and a position in which it extends away from the 30 body of the container, the latter position being suitable for pouring paint from the container.
»
>
The present invention also provides a method of dispensing paint from a container of the invention and for recovering unused paint back to said container, the method comprising 35 squeezing the flexible bag to cause paint to exit therefrom through said opening, and
2
causing the volume of the container to be increased while said opening is immersed in paint to be recovered so that paint is drawn into the container.
Brief description of the drawings
5 The accompanying drawings are as follows:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a container in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is an elevation on one large side of the container of Figure 1; and Figure 3 is an elevation on a narrow side of the container of Figure 1.
10
Detailed description of the Invention
The invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings.
15 A container 1 in accordance with the present invention is formed of a plastics material which will withstand impact and body weight pressure. The container 1 is essentially formed of two sheets of such plastics material forming sides 3 and 5 which are joined together at seams 7 and 9. The overall shape of the container 1 is rectangular as best seen in Figure 2. At the ends between seams 7,9 the container is provided with pairs of 20 handles 11,13 which may be used to carry the container and also to assist with emptying and retrieving paint as will be described below.
Each of the handles 11,13 is integral with the body of the container and is formed of the same material. Each handle is formed of a flap of the plastics material with a hole in it • "I*.25 allowing easy grip and handling.

• • • •
At one end the container 1 is provided with a nozzle 15. This nozzle 15 is an elongate member which is provided with a cap 17. Nozzle 15 is movable from the position shown in solid line in Figure 1, where it extends adjacent the end of the bag to the position 30 shown in dotted line in Figures 1 and 2, where it extends longitudinally away from the body of the bag. In this latter position the paint within the bag may be caused to be exited therefrom.
35
The nozzle 15 is provided with a valve (not shown) which is a vacuum valve that stops the paint from oozing out of the bag when it is left without the closure in place. The
3
nozzle can be sealed in the closed position to protect the contents after production of the bag and for transport purposes.
Squeezing the bag 1 will discharge the paint through the nozzle, the nozzle enabling an 5 accurate volume to be poured with less mess than is normally caused by pouring from tins or pots. Any unused paint can be sucked back into the vacuumed bag by pulling the handles apart. The paint can be mixed and agitated by rolling the bag or pulling the handles.
10 The bags may be made of clear plastics material which will enable easy identification of the contents.
When the paint has all been used, it is an easy matter to dispose of the container than is the case with a tin or pot.
15
The present invention provides a paint container which is generally easier to transport without the danger of damage. In particular, the present invention enables an on-line paint selection and home delivery service to be provided.
