Abstract

A short stroke internal combustion engine has two connecting rods 2 and two crankshafts 3 per cylinder to keep the piston 1 parallel with the cylinder thus reducing wear and combining the advantage of rapid acceleration and engine longevity. The crankshafts 3 may rotate in opposite directions or in the same direction.

Description

I 2456305 Short Stroke Internal Combustion Engine Short stroke engines have been around for some time and have the advantage of more rapid acceleration over the more traditional long stroke engine. Up until now the problem with the short stroke has been its rapid wear on the piston thrust face and cylinder wall caused by piston rock.
This present invention seeks to overcome this problem by using two crankshafts and two connecting rods per cylinder. This keeps the piston parallel with the crankshafts, thus reducing wear.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 shows a sectional end elevation with the piston halfway up its travel.
No.1 Piston; No.2 Connecting Rod; No. 3 Crankshafts.
As the piston (1) moves up and down it's movement is controlled by the connecting rods (2) which turn the crankshafts (3).
